OK, I can admit to having at least one version of every UK single (the two different label designs of Pyjamarama, replacements for knackered ones ect), a handfull of foreign sleeves, all the albums three times (vinyl, the first Virgin cd reissues, and last years cd remasters) except for the compilations, Taxi, Mamouna and ATGB. But then I've only dipped my toe into the subsequent solo ventures (with the exception of Bryan). I've got a couple of Manzanera lp's (yes, vinyl) and all of Eno's 70s work. I have avoided Andy Mackay's solo stuff, Rock Follies and The Explorers (give me one good reason why). As for Paul Thompson, I wan't even aware that he'd done anything other than Roxy until I arrived in Avalon. So that leaves the rotating cast list of bass players and session musicians. If I have anything that involves them on anything other than Roxy, it is purely a coincidence. My love of the music of David Bowie developed separately, and I was intrigued to find that Eno had collaborated with him. This was when I was about 10, and it was the EG Music credit on Low and Heroes that formed that connection. As for Family, King Crimson, Talking Heads, U2, Mott The Hoople, Pet Shop Boys, Split Enz, Genesis and any other direct or non-direct connections, these have been listened too without too much informed knowledge of the involvement of Roxy members, but I often find that some of the music I do listen to can be connected with Roxy or Bowie in some way. Although I would like to hear the song that Bryan wrote for her out of Abba (I can't remember which one). So there, and I never bought any King Crimson or Genesis, it was just taped for me. Honest. The show was Bryan and the band performing a truncated live set from his current tour in a TV studio with no audience. The soundtrack has long been available on a variety of bootlegs, some misdating it as 1979. I have never seen the show, and from what I'm told it has never been repeated, so I don't suppose there's much chance of the footage turning up on the collectors scene, but maybe it's time for any Aussie fans to DEMAND the show to be repeated. Also, it's curious that none of this show was used in the Total Recall video. Instead, they had a tiny snatch of "In Your Mind" from Japan (if I remember correctly). Good, that's all cleared up then. I just really wish I could be at Castle Howard with you lot. I'll have to hope our man's new-found enthusiasm lasts until the next tour, if there is one. Fingers always crossed for the reunion . . . I never got around to finishing the Ragley Hall review, so sorry about that. I didn't have an awful lot to think about it - I'd pretty much been expecting it to be brilliant, then when it was, I couldn't understand why I wasn't surprised :-) I've seen the TV ad, by the way, and it does seem rather visually quiet (or something). Doesn't seem to jump out at the viewer at all - but from a marketing point of view (not that I'm trained in this field, you understand), perhaps it's supposed to jump out at you through *not* jumping out at you. What *am* I talking about? Sorry, it's Monday evening and for once I've remembered to put the Radio 1 Evening Session on. I think Bryan must be trying to move back into mainstream, er, entertainment industry thingy rather more gradually than we (as the most loyal fans) would like. He probably knew that ATGB wouldn't get mainstream attention, since Radio 1 are petrified of playing anything written more than 11 years ago, and decided that the way to work himself back into the limelight was to start with a greatest hits / ATGB tour and then a greatest hits album. These would be aimed at the perhaps less dedicated "housewife" fans via the large outdoor picnicky venues, and, in the case of the album, the afore-discussed adverts. The album, incidentally, would need with a sort of theme (ballads) to single it out from the other greatest hits albums they've done and will inevitably do in the future. Sorry, that was a bit wordy. What I'm trying to say is that if he'd done a really eyecatching advert, people might get the wrong idea and think "Cor, that Bryan Ferry, he must be desperate for more attention!" Although I agree that the adverts were a bit of a disappointment since we've been waiting for them for ages ;-) That was something of a rant.
