They were all still there when I was in memphis in January 1999. There's also a nice new big restaurant called 'Elvis Presley's Memphis', they make a great Brunch and have live Gospel singers on a Sunday, with Elvis music and concert footage playing at other times. 'Bryan Ferry's Washington' doesn't have the same ring to it does it?! There is also talk of renamimg the shopping Mall " the Bill Clinton Centre.' And, according to the local Newcastle paper, guess who is to be invited to open it? We here in the USA, sure wish we had Petworth, Ragley Hall & all the others plus Ferry to talk about in our city every few weeks. Since we don't have Bryan on our turf,we do our best to make conversation. Thats what we're here for I think! ------On the topic of the buttons for the group to wear . I think the word" Avalonia " in scripto with a crown over the letter" A," would be unique. What do you think ? Any other ideas, anyone? Btw its still very hot here. Why? The two albums he made with Family are great. Chapman's voice is one of my favorite voices. Ivor writes about Eno, I don't even have all his solo recordings, less all the things he has produced. As for covers, some are good, but few are better then Roxy/Ferry. Ok, Ivor lists: Curved Air, Sky, Robert Wyatt, Soft Machine, Gong, Steve Hillage, Robin Trower, Dave Gilmour (first solo), Pink Floyd ('Momentary Lapse of Reason'), Frank Zappa, Jethro Tull, John Cale, Pretty Things... Lets see now. Eddie Jobson was in Curved Air and played w/Zappa and then Jethro Tull. Francis Monkman played with 801 and with Sky. Robert Wyatt sang on Manzanera's solo albums. Robin Trower has produced and played with Ferry. Manzanera co-wrote 'Momentary Lapse of Reason' for Pink Floyd. Eno and Manzanera have played with Cale. That leaves connections with Gong, Steve Hillage and Pretty Things, none of which I've actually listend too... I think this is a perfectly well-supported release of back catalogue material. I wasn't expecting wall-to-wall coverage. However if there were a new release... I would say for a new release; the UK campaign should be modeled after USA tv greatest hits commericals: Aim it at the single ladies with credit cards handy.... "He's one of the most successful recording artists in history... He's sold over 20 million records... He's recorded some of the most beloved love songs of our time... He's.... Slim Whitman (whatever)." Cut to Clip of Slim crooning in an empty studio. More Pitch. Then: Operators are standing by, call "1-800-new BFCD." The orders flood in. ___________________________________________________________________________ Come to Las Vegas and hear the indestructible tagline sing selections from "The Jazz Singer" !
