As adaptations go, it wasn't on par with a 6-hour PD James with Roy Marsden, but I was satisfied the spirit of the original work was there. OK, maybe not Abu Dhabi. I think the promotion (or rather the lack of it) has been appalling - a real missed opportunity to raise Ferry's profile again. Now, I don't sit glued to ITV or Channel 4 every night, but I watch a reasonable amount and neither I nor anyone I know has seen any of the adverts in the London area. A lot of new releases are also advertised in the press - particularly following a TV appearance (even if it is only along the lines of "As seen on Jim Davidson Presents..." - but nothing). I got chatting to several people in the crowd at Ragley who were completely unaware of the album until they saw it advertised in the concert programme, and this was 6 days after its release. If the record company really is keen to re-establish Ferry as a major artist (and we all know that his current form more than justifies this) then they have a funny way of showing it. This compilation could have been used to jog the memory of erstwhile fans, introduce him to a new audience and, together with the forthcoming Paris Video, generally build up awareness ahead of the long awaited new album (she said, hopefully, not holding her breath!) early next year. How much influence does Bryan have on actually distributing the promotion rather than its production (stylish though I'm sure it is)? I suppose this side-steps the legal issues a bit by not advertising any gray or black matter. But why the official BF/RM logo? Isn't Mr. Ferry's management concerned - unless of course the logo's use is licensed or being used by an official for official business? Ironic, when you hear he often has his hand in the production, etc. of his product. Why that doesn't seem to translate well to promotion? Who knows, the artist may not well understand how to ensure his management and promoters are effective. Certainly, I don't understand what the deal is. Maybe Mr. Ferry only concentrates on and calls the shots on the artistic side of things. Yes, and tellingly it's not from the record company but an MVC (record shops) advert with Bryan and Roxy as 'Artist of The Month', arrayed with selected items from the back catalogue going cheap. The Chicago Sun-Times today an the Jerry Hall article from the London Daily Telegraph. She even made the front page of the paper- and in color to boot. Entitled "She used to love him..." it was about how or "favorite" Siren has moved on and loving her life now especially with her part in the Graduate coming up. Of course there is NO mention of our hero in the article. I wonder if the interviewer had ASKED her some pre-Mick questions, she would have said something nice about Bryan. Well she looks good and states that she could care less about her detractors. Ya-hoo! Yippy ki- yeh! I guess that includes most of this list. Hi Kim! Jerry mentions that she "lurves" just "lurves" going to concerts even to the point of flying around the world to see her favorite artists like her neighbor Pete Townsend. Okay she has the money, help with the kids (including Mick) and the means to travel at a whim. Do ya suppose she has showed up recently at a concert or two featuring a former paramour who is in top form now? Have the "yelps" during LST sounding more authenic these days duing the current statley homes tour? Bryan is wearing the white tux more these days-just a whim or a subtle nod to the country life days? Yawl attendees at these events will have to help me out here. High Fidelity- Filmed and set here in Chicago. I have yet to see it but will. It's gotten good reviews. It stars John Cusak who is a Chicago area native AND a childhood friend of Andrew (now of Chicago) Free tickets Andy? Jas Marlana: How you making out down there in the Texas heat? Can you still boogie? Whew... I like ZZ Top too. The new B.B. King/Clapton disc is also good. It's like the father teaching the son how it's done-REALLY done. Why did they decide to do Hold On I'm coming? Has this one been done enough??? The Sam and Dave version is stil the best in my opinion. Otherwise a winner. I'm happy for B.
