Hello All, Something for you to ponder. I was thinking last night that it is odd that Dance With Life was not included on the STL package. It is after all a bona fide ballad, unlike some other tracks on this 'Best of the Ballads' compilation (More Than This for example). The track has still never had a formal release in the UK, other than an appearance on the Phenomenon soundtrack, three years on from its German/Australian release. I guess there might be some licensing issue but it does seem an odd omission, and surely would have offered greater a incentive to purchase the compilation, had it been included. I can't say it's a great song, and the production's a bit OTT, but it is a nice vocal, even if it makes Ferry sound like Elton John, and it should have been there in my view. The sampling of old blues records is very effective, and there's plenty of good tunes in there. What is the opinion of Moby and what album(s) is/are > recommended? I don't have 'Play' yet (too miserly to pay full price for it...!) but what I've heard (most of it) has been brilliant - top recommendation. The other albums are an eclectic bunch: 1) 'The Story So Far' (1992) - collected early hardcore techno tracks and mixes ('Go', 'Ah Ah') only one track is less than frantic ('Mercy'). Not great for repeated listening...for dedicated clubbers only. 2) 'Ambient' (1993) - surprise surprise, much mellower, trancey in parts. *Great* chillout music - recommended. 3) 'Everything Is Wrong' (1995) - the breakthrough album. Generally more tuneful techno than anything else but with some more reflective tracks in between the 'dress-shop' numbers (as my wife calls them). A cautious recommendation, but worth looking for the limited edition with the 43 minute track 'Underwater' which is excellent meditative trance/ambient. 4) 'Everything Is Wrong' (1996) Remix album - thumpy techno all the way through, so comments same as for 'TSSF'. 5) 'Animal Rights' (1996) - Moby picks up the guitar and goes HM. No, seriously ! Some genuine thrash that early Megadeth would be proud of...(if lacking that extra punch). A few lighter tracks but it's mostly no holds barred metal. A limited edition of this also has the nine-track 'Little Idiot' CD - a cross between 'South Downs' and Budd/Eno's 'Plateaux of Mirror'. A thoroughly mixed bag then, but generally not recommended for first time buyers !! 6) 'I Like To Score - Music From Films Vol 1' (1997) - Some previously-released and re-recorded material used in films like 'Scream', 'Heat', 'Cool World' and 'The Saint' make it a good representative sample of the range of noise Moby makes. This includes a little techno ('Go' and 'Ah ah'), the reworked Monty Norman James Bond theme and a token metallic track ('New Dawn Fades'). Recommended but watch out for the two techno tracks... 7) 'Rare- The Collected B-Sides' - more thumpy techno (mostly) including 'Thousand' which is in the Guinness Book of Records as being the fastest song ever recorded. You don't really need to know any more... Hope this helps, Ivor. n.p. Fluke - 'The Peel Sessions' - now why aren't *they* massively successful ?? ___________________________________________________________________________ Come to Las Vegas and hear the indestructible tagline sing selections from "The Jazz Singer" ! And I thought it was superb. However, as much as I try to force myself to like the 30's standards it just is not working for me. In fact, please forgive me, I actually partially fast-fowarded thru a couple of them. I try and I try but they just don't move me. Is anyone else experiencing this? Please Bryan, come out come out wherever you are!
