Living near Amsterdam, bringing sick children to grand-parents, working in Groningen, partying in The Hague: it wasn't an easy going day... But it was fun! My wife, her first life encounter, enjoyed it too. Yet another wonderful concert of Our Man! Sitting in concert chairs -with all those posh people around, what were they doing in the front rows!?- isn't my farourite way of going to a Bryan Ferry concert, but it gave me the opportunity to film some snippets 'steady cam'. I'll try to post a few frames on my web site soon. The girls looked wonderful -Rosie with her see through blouse-, and Bryan was again clearly enjoying himself. Good acoustics, great show, many Avalonians. Alan was over from the USA. Great. My high lights: Julia's harp solo and the quartet start, One of those Things (back early in the set!). Change Meeting -still overwhelming-, September song, and as Final Encore: Virginia Plain! Very jealous of you fools who are going to that Castle Concert in August. Great to see Remake/Remodel perform again, Leslie: what a nice sax solo on 'If there is Something'. And I really like the Eno sounds. At the end I must have been really drunk or overwhelmed by sleep. For the non-Dutchies: the Netherlands is a Huge Country and I was driving from west to north to the middle and back again. More than 3000 miles - -that's a typo ;-) Forget to mention the light show which seemed to me more brilliant and swirling than before: Change Meeting in glaring red, wonderful yellow beams coming up during the bands blaze with Bryan directing from far left. There were things different: I don't remember the Green setting of Carrickfergus from previous gigs. Where were the stars and the mirror ball on the ceiling? Out of the Blue was still in blue, and yet again a wonderful Lucy performance! How could I forget to mention. My concentration again... Why not > just acknowledge one another's viewpoints and freeze out the rest? Why not > put more subtle pressure on the official service to do more? Good suggestion . . . Another thing or two: I think it was slightly pedantic to criticise Tom for thanking Jim on the list. The thanks weren't meant to be seen by Jim (whether they were or not) - he was just being polite. From a linguistic point of view, saying thankyou for things tends to be something we're used to doing and do subconsciously.
