["eman96" ] Re: [AVALON] any clever 'old' people out there? ["Robert Whiteford" Subject: [AVALON] The Lawnmower Men (An admonition) To quote the immortal words of Rodney King (Brits, don't ask): Why can't we all get along? And whatever would Bryan think? We can't be sure, but based on what he has said he doesn't relish a slugfest, but just freezes out his adversaries. Who can then be surprised that Avalon gets the cold shoulder? We deserve no better, and can only hope that he doesn't know how bad it gets. If Jim Lawn is keeping him in the dark about Avalon, then Jim is right, and I for one am grateful. Jim is certainly right to keep his distance from this list, and let Tom and Richard get information to us, despite the fact that he misses out on some of the most knowledgeable, best-written, humorous, even scholarly fan-postings on the planet: Ivor, Martin, John O'B, Chris T., Jocelyn, Arnie, Colleen, KBPorter, Noam, Bahi (where is he?), the uproarious MonquiBoy, Gene, Mark S., young Laura, and many many others. Everybody has been right about something. Colleen is dead-right that when we trade unreleased material, it is categorically illegal even though it's also great fun and irresistible; Tom W. is right that we would rather know about stuff than not know; Martin is right that there is good reason for disappointment in the official fan service. But surely it's wrong to cry havoc, and let loose the dogs of war. Why not just acknowledge one another's viewpoints and freeze out the rest? Why not put more subtle pressure on the official service to do more? The wise, conciliatory tone of Martin's last post was not acknowledged as it ought to have been, nor was there any recognition that certain subjects are perennials on the list and will crop up repeatedly. After all, we get new members all the time, don't we.......? Rob Edwards, I can't bear the tension - please keep us up to date with sales news - much appreciated. Can't you just give us a clue on the numbers? In code if you like - is it "X" deadly sins? "x" HB ? "X" and nine ? three and "x"? weekend starts Friday soon after "X" So it gets to "x" and I think of nothing....... He often used Jews as models for his biblical works, and there are plenty of portraits of Jews (some of whom might well have been merchants), but that seems a pretty far stretch into esoteric territory for this type of puzzle. *shrug* -wfs ___________________________________________________________________________ Come to Las Vegas and hear the indestructible tagline sing selections from "The Jazz Singer" ! I don't know if anybody on the list actually sells material. But I am curious. In particular anyone who is selling say...HOROSCOPE. Lemme know. ;-) ___________________________________________________________________________ Come to Las Vegas and hear the indestructible tagline sing selections from "The Jazz Singer" ! Stop being so high handed, what damage was done to the list by Jim Lawn asking that his suspicions be posted to the list members? First, I am appreciative of any source of BF/RM information. But I have to say that the impression of JL and the behavior of the IS, is too precious sometimes. If a list, any list, needs a message or suspicion or "naughty naughty," then the message should come from the legal affairs of the artist's management, or the record co. (outdated term). Certainly a mere superfan who runs an ipso facto fan club, who has the privilege of getting HIS COPIES OF UNRELEASED MATERIAL TO PREVIEW AND ENJOY should not be throwing any stones. And I think the root of why some get pissed off here, is that constant messages of Jim Lawn's privileged position and listenings etc., make there way to this list. Is it any wonder. Let's boil it down, shall we. This list and its members have done a hell of a lot more to create commerce AND good will for Mr. Ferry than Jim Lawn has ever done. That said, Mr Wallace, I do appreciate your reports, but I understand both sides. Really from a stateside perspective, the whole debate is fairly precious. Very British. No one in the USA recording industry gives a crap if a few bootleg CDs/CDR's get bandied around the world due to the net. e ___________________________________________________________________________ Come to Las Vegas and hear the indestructible tagline sing selections from "The Jazz Singer" !
