[AvalonSirena@aol.com] Re: [AVALON] Petworth Report ["Robert Whiteford" Subject: [AVALON] Bryan on BBC Radio 5 Live Dear All, Bryan's promoting the open air concerts quite heavily. I happened to catch an interview with Kevin Greening on 5 Live on Thursday afternoon - I was in my car, so couldn't tape it (Kicki sighs with relief :-) ). Usual stuff, without the inevitable (and, sadly, mostly predictable) songs, as 5 is a speech station. However, Bryan said that Eno is featured on This Love on the STL compilation. He also said the next new studio album is scheduled for "Spring 2001... hopefully." He's enjoyed playing with the touring group so much that he wants to re- record some of the new songs with them, which will happen this autumn. I hope that this will not mean we have to wait too much longer for its' release as a consequence! I'm quite happy about this, as in my "review" of the Golders Green concert, ISTR suggesting that Bryan do just this. Sorry if I've caused any delay! Slave To Love, Dance Away and the final encore was Virginia Plain. He dropped Sunset and the only ATGB songs remaining are, The Way You Look Tonight, Love Me Or Leave Me, Where Or When and September Song. He also came out for the second half of the show with the white Tuxedo. Full report when I get back home. The three songs you mention are my favourite ones and I've never seen Bryan live in the White Tuxedo. Hope he repeats this at Castle Howard. I'm looking forward to the concert even more now! My soon to be ex-husband has been friends with Jon for years (he was the guitarist in an early band that eventually became Bon Jovi). They were all into the New York Dolls, T Rex and Marc Bolan.....never heard any mention of Roxy (but that doesn't mean Jon wasn't into it - I just never asked him!) ___________________________________________________________________________ Come to Las Vegas and hear the indestructible tagline sing selections from "The Jazz Singer" ! Locked of course so we headed to the Petworth car park which luckily had a playground next to it. Holly wanted to play - up down see-saw - when I heard what I thought at first was a car radio playing the maestro. A live version of Slave to Love ? It quickly became clear this was the sound of Ferry rehearsing some tracks, with the thumping sound carrying into the town centre. So between 5 and 6 we listened to Slave to Love, Dance Away, Avalon, Let's stick together and Virginia Plain from the comfort of the playground. At 6 we spotted what looked like a traffic jam in the town centre and left for the park. Just as well as it took 35 minutes to cover barely a mile to the entrance. Out the car , down the hill, Holly head first as it happens, it was pretty steep. Mark out our territory and we're off - only a little while to wait - drinking the beers as time goes by. and by. and by. Following the original announcement that BF's KO was 8.45 a brave soul emerged to tell us that it would be a 9pm start. 9.20 - still no sign of the cool ruler. I wonder whether the National Trust have organised anything on this scale before - the traffic and parking arrangements on the way in and ESPECIALLY on the way out made me think not. Anyway were finally off and everyone is on their feet - where they had to stay to get a view. I always feel this is best for the atmosphere anyway. From "Smoke gets in your eyes" onwards it was clear the crowd would sing along to the ones they knew. The more times I see Bryan live the more I like "Casanova" - maybe it could come later in the set - swap it with "September Song" . The second half was the hits, Slave to Love, Dance Away and Viginia Plain added to the set, You do something to me and Just One of those things not being played. Actually I can't remember whether we heard "Falling in Love Again" or not. The kids really enjoyed LST and I never tire of seing him do this song. Really enjoyed the concert - terrific. To think we were discussing whether he could still sing before this tour began. Bryan waved goodbye - a 10 minute drive to Little Bognor for him - a one hour wait in a badly organised car park for us.As I was sitting in the never ending queue the mobile went off with a message from Han that Avalonians were at the left of the stage - probably some 3 hours earlier. Sorry I missed you all - I am considering Castle Howard where we could try again. Oh and I nearly forgot to mention the magnificent firework display. I can take or leave these things but this was really really good. Good music, good timing, good fireworks, beautiful. There looked to be a lot of people there - well done Bryan these concerts look like being a great idea.
