I'd say it effectively trumps Stump. Those of you who enjoyed the recent protracted lesson in aesthetics from KBPorter, Ivor Canning, Colleen Matan [who rescued it from Pseud's Corner just in time], Tim Kendrick, Martin Stockman and even our Jas, will surely relish this. There's a lot of repetition in it because it has the track listings of all albums in each format but it's a useful resource and an interesting read. A labour of love I'd guess but one which is inevitably incomplete (as the author admits) because it's so hard to keep track of world-wide releases. The usual stuff - much charm, little to pin down. Very fine fettle, well-humoured. Key bits: Slave to Love has an Eno contribution (can't remember if a Mamouna track is on it, so maybe it's This Love). Next album will not be like ATGB but will "surprise us" ATGB is one of BF's biggest selling solo albums I missed the start, but Street Life, ATGB, Dance Away, Crazy Love (BF request), LITD played. [off-list if it's deemed off-topic]) This was part the Sonic Boom exhibition put together by David Toop. A few other old pals of Eno's were represented too - Max Eastley (who I thought had some of the most interesting work there) and Russell Mills. I found Eno's installation very pleasant and relaxing but oddly disjointed - to reduce it to basics, it consisted of a low-lit room with a couple of screens and a tilted column which had various patterns projected onto them. Benches were available for visitors to sit and absorb the atmosphere while the multi-channel music played around the room. The music itself was fairly predictable ambient fare (although I found it more interesting than, say, 'Thursday Afternoon') which according to the CD notes has an estimated average playing time of approximately 6,000 years (so a 12" dance remix would appear to be out of the question). In the exhibition catalogue, Eno has this to say about his current crop of installations (including The Quiet Club): "The working principle of these installations continues a thread that has been common to much of my work - the idea of 'generative' compositions, compositions that are not precisely specified in advance but which create themselves continually and without repetition. I do this by using multiple reproduction systems which are not synchronised with each other, and by choosing visual and sonic materials in advance which combine together in unpredicted combinations."
