I was told by a friend who's going to the Elton John show today that alcohol wasn't allowed to be taken in and had to be bought there etc which seems to go against the philosophy of a picnic. I'll be able to tell more tomorrow when I see him at work. Point well made on the Diana album -didn't mean to imply that was exploitation- I was just a bit annoyed at having to shell out another few £'s to acquire more material I've already got. As far the contractual obligation I wonder if the contract in question was signed when Bryan might resonably have been expected to generate enough new material on albums to justify collections every so often. A collection after every studio release is a bit much. Time is not exactly in his side and he's got loads of new material to get out, and given his track record I would just like to see it out before he has a chance to worry about it. This tour has been so good and I worry that we'll see another loss of momentum like after Limbo and Mamouna. If the collection does serve to maintain his profile I'll be delighted and l look forward to his next originals album denting the charts in a big way, with a top 10 single to boot ! The Whiteford's are going to Petworth (inc Ross 6 and Holly 4) so my turn to stand in a massive queue and buy you a pint. Don't know the plan exactly but were taking chairs , beers champagne and all sorts and I'll also look forward to meeting Glen Lehman. If you like the paintings of Duncan Grant, Roger Fry and Vanessa Bell, or if the idea of looking at gorgeous Hogarth Press first editions and numerous holograph letters from Virginia Woolf and Lytton Strachey and the like gives you a kick - and I admit I'm a sucker for these sorts of things - it really is an astonishing show, beautifully arranged and displayed, and vast - five or six hours of viewing if you bother to read the descriptions accompanying the paintings. Ferry's interest in the Bloomsbury circle and their bete noire Wyndham Lewis is well documented, and familiar I'm sure to almost everyone on this list. The Bryan Ferry Collection has loaned five pieces to the exhibition - including one of the larger canvasses, ' Summer Camp ' by Vanessa Bell, and a Duncan Grant painting of the unfinished bust of Virginia Woolf, this one of the most striking pictures in the show. Do try and get there if you can. Just got back from vacation--hope it's not too late to respond to this thread-- At Richway in Marietta (GA) I purchased my first two 45s with allowance money I'd been saving for weeks: Stevie Nicks' "Edge of Seventeen" and Journey's "Separate Ways." I was twelve, I think. First full-length album on cassette: Duran Duran's _Seven and the Ragged Tiger_, which was only half mine because my sister had helped me buy it. My wife and I are travelling from the U.S. (Pennsylvania) to go see the Bryan Ferry 7/13 show in The Hague that will help kick off the North Sea Jazz Festival. Are other list members going? If so, we would love to meet other Avalon list members. In addition, we sincerely hope to attend (a not 100% confirmed but looks pretty likely) after party hosted by none other than the very cool Roxy Music/Bryan Ferry cover band Re-make/Re-Model after the BF show. As an American list member, this sounds like it has the potential to be about as good as things get here in the 2000's. If you haven't conversed with him, Re-make/Re-model frontman Ron Snelderweert is a fantastic guy with a very talented band. I would encourage anyone in the area to try to see their show, assuming it happens. Please feel free to e-mail me off list if you intend to go to either or both shows. As for the Remake/Re-Model show, log on to http://www.geocities.com/re_make_re_model to keep up to date as to their progress in ascertaining the after party. As for the Avalon list, I would like to briefly state that being a member is a wonderful thing! I love "hearing" from Kicki, Martino, Reecey, Ivor, Arnie, etc., etc., etc... on a daily basis. Also, I cannot believe the incredible bounty we list members reap, including Roxy/BF knowledge, comraderie, CDs, and videos - it's beyond anything I ever imagined - thanks to all!!!
