The Texas Music Festival at first & then it became later as the Texas Jam. The Texas Music Festival initially was a Battle of the Bands. I suppose they couldn't get anyone later , after all no one wants to lose or be the band who did. I saw that done once or twice in some clubs back in my home town when I was growing up. At a Club were Bo Diddley & Chuck Berry. Berry lost, probably only because of the drunken crowd that night as they were the ones who did the voting. Another time it was Little Richard & Jerry Lee Lewis, Lewis lost. I never felt these were anything but gimmicks to lure the crowds in. How I ever got in with a phony ID is beyond me but then, it wasn't too hard. Kids can't do that today, to much security at least that's the case now. Dallas has done something good for the teens, they can go to a concert, & Moms & Dads can go to their own little bar & restaurant . While they wait for kids they can visit with other parents & not have to drive back & forth but yet they know the kids are okay. What parent wants to sit thru N Sync? BTW no charge for parents to go into there hangout. Jimi Hendrix, the Rolling Stones, and Marvin Gaye in his patent leather mac were my earliest fashion memories. Later, at about eleven, I spent a lot of time gazing at Roxy Music album covers in the local record-store window, trying to work out why, to my preteen eyes, everybody looked both beautiful and hideous at the same time. At least Bryan contributed a new song - not something which could be said of everyone involved. The Information Service newsletter is an upbeat assessment of where Bryan is at present - embarking on a series of unique concerts with a successful album / tour under his belt and enough material virtually in the can for two more albums starting in under a year. I know time has slipped past us before, but I'm happy to believe Bryan could be back on a roll here - only time will tell if my faith is misplaced! As for the new compilation, as mentioned in earlier posts, this is an album Bryan is contracturally obliged to release - refuse to put it out means breach of contract, simple as that. Having bought the import version of this album (which features no new material) for a mere £12.99 I think it's money well spent - the album is an excellent package with some brilliant artwork. Personally I look forward to the UK release of the album as a pleasant filler between now and the next new work. I think it's also a nice departure from the usual hits package, although personally I'd still welcome a greatest hits devoted to Bryan and Roxy separately instead of the joint titles since 1986. "Slave to Love" will serve to maintain Bryan's profile, raised so well by the success of 'As Time Goes By', which will hopefully mean there isn't too high a mountain to climb by the time the next album is released. The upcoming concerts will promote both albums - hope to see you at one or more of them. I think this sort of thing has been done before but I'm not certain - certainly Elton John is doing something similar in the UK this summer. It seems to me that the Bryan concerts are billed as fairly relaxed events with the audience invited to bring picnics etc. so I doubt there's going to be much if any seating. They will certainly be a fairly unique experience and very enjoyable if the weather improves. I am looking forward to taking my wife to Tatton Park (she's only seen Bryan once before) and introducing my two young children to the experience of Ferry live. Stop being such an old misery guts Colleen. If I can put up with loads of postings about glam rock names surely you can handle folk making it known which shows they will be attending. After all it would appear to be a much more worthwhile use of the list than some of the things that get posted. There's a good chance that I may not make it to any of the shows, but I would still like to know how many list members can attend which shows. Till the next time, Tom. ___________________________________________________________________________ Come to Las Vegas and hear the indestructible tagline sing selections from "The Jazz Singer" !
