Once they go, they go, and I guess that's the way they're built. Exactly when it happens is just down to luck/bad luck. In a strange way I'm fortunate it didn't happen during something I was taping off the TV which I really wanted, or, even worse, that it didn't ruin an 'original' of something. All it knackered in the end was an ordinary 180 tape. Could have been a lot worse. I'm just thankful at the moment that some original USA TV Show recordings from the mid 60s, which I bought last week from the States (which feature big Reecey faves, The Shangri-Las amongst others) weren't in it at the time, so I'm considering myself lucky, as those tapes took me a long, long time to find. Imagine if it had happened to the Cirque original ? Doesn't bear thinking about. Sighs of relief here, strangely enough. Another old VCR of mine, I seem to remember, did a 'hatchet job' on a tape which contained 2 different appearances of 'More Than This' some years ago, and I've never been able to replace them (one the Vid promo, one a TOTP appearance - anybody out there got them so I can copy them ? - it'll be done on brand new machines - honest !) 3 years approx ain't bad for an overworked VCR these days, in fact the 'Clunk' was probably long overdue. I deliberately used a brand new machine for the original source of Cirque for this very reason. I have decided to get another new machine. It's just frustrating that the Shop I want to get one from is closed today, being a Bank Hol here, but I'm going straight there Tuesday morning, before work, to choose something new and shiny (therefore, people who have arranged to call me at the Shop on Tuesday a.m. re 'Cirque' - and there's a few of you - please note I may not be in till after about midday now !). Onward and upward, without squeaks and clunks. Reecey... ___________________________________________________________________________ The indestructible tagline farts in your general direction. Bryan Ferry - Slave To Love. Release Date: 10/07/00. Track Listing: Slave To Love, Jealous Guy, This Love, More Than This, Falling In Love Again, Smoke Gets In Your Eyes, Will You Love Me Tomorrow, Oh Yeah, Is Your Love Strong Enough, Zamba, These Foolish Things, Crazy Love, Sonnet No.18, Avalon, Where Or When, To Turn You On, Windswept, My Only love. Roxy Music - The Early Years. Release Date: 07/08/00. Track Listing: re-Make/Re-Model, Ladytron, If There Is Something, 2HB, Chance Meeting, Virginia Plain, Pyjamarama, Do The Strand, Beauty Queen, Editions Of You, In Every Dream home A Heartache, The Bogus Man, Street Life, Song For Europe, Mother Of Pearl, Sunset. The "Slave" cd has been given a revised running order and when I find out more about the new track "This Love" I'll post it, but as far as I know this song was not penned by Bryan. The "Early Years" is quite a nice pocket history for those who may not have purchased the earlier Roxy albums. From what I remember the cover art is being put together by Nick de Ville and Mr F. It now looks like there will be a video and DVD of the Paris show released in the Autumn. Again if I get any more details then I'll post them. As for the Sun Tribute project Bryan's track will not be the old Elvis song "One Night", but rather a new recording for the proposed cd. Cheers, Tom. ___________________________________________________________________________ The indestructible tagline farts in your general direction. Dénouement: he seems to have lost Otis to the stables (or is it gamekeeping?) but apparently Isaac is an Etonian, and who knows if the others may follow? My vote for the guy who most needs to keep a bar of soap handy: Pete Townshend, who when bleeped sounds like Reecey's VCR, racking up about five f-words per sentence on average.....
