My first cd of BBC Sessions "When We Were Young" (Oh Boy records) has all the sessions hideously speeded up. Hi all, I've have been there with Andy. Oud-Beijerland is a mighty small town with a lot of bars that made it difficult to find the place anyway. Missed Streetlife and 2 or 3 more. Met Han and Patricia -Vampirella?- and some more of the Dutchies that will go to Petworth next June. Atmosphere was indeed great. Quite a good pre-seventies imitation, though I never saw Roxy perform then. Ron, the singer, had the kaki Siren-shirt with Roxy Music logo on left upper arm. Smoked a sigaret during encore, no brown St. Moritz though. No Fytofix either, I suppose. Eno was brilliant: great vest with panther spots. And real Brian sounds. These two are 'authentic fans', Ron told me. Then Andy and Phil: both skilled players, and especially Andy with his long sax solos got the people on their feet. Phil's solo in My Only Love was longer than the real Bryan permits I think. Good bass and drums also. A true Paul no-nonsense Thompson drummer. Balder and not a slim, but solid drumming. Would love to hear The bogus Man with them. Even took some pictures and if they turn out right I might put one up on my web site. Tara! Special merit award to Simon for organising such a fine evening. On a rather hot humid evening one has to replenish lost body fluid with the occasional beverage. Mr Stockman seemed to be the one in most need for such aid. A fine meal was had by all in a well-chosen restaurant. The stories were flowing and so was the drink. I started to get worried when Martin would start to duck walk across the floor with a garlic bread loaf shaped like a saxophone when the piped music was only playing O Sole Mio. After the meal 5 of us ended up in Ronnie Scott's, which is an education in itself. Fine music played by fine musicians. We discussed how Bryan would fit in such a smokey night club situation such as this. Martin seemed to be bouncing around the place like a short trousered version of the thunderbirds. I reckoned he was well and truly under the affluence of incohol when he said to me "…take me drunk I'm home…" A few drinks later and we noticed that Martino had disappeared but Jocelyn assured me he'd find his way home. I was a wee bit concerned as I was staying with Martin that night. Read on. I walked back through the streets of London which is a bit daunting for some one who lives in the middle of nowhere. I am not very familiar with this city at all. I wandered through some back streets and met a nice lady standing at a street corner and was obviously feeling the heat with her apparent minimum clothing. I asked her where I was and she said I was I was in an area that sounded like Sew Ho, never heard of it, anyway she kindly offered me some duck but as I was not hungry I declined and the £50 price was a bit too much. I eventually arrived at Stockman towers to find that my continued ringing of the doorbell was falling on deaf ears so I had to wander through the town in search of somewhere else to rest my weary head. I knocked on several doors but to no avail until I seen this big white place with quite a high fence around it. I climbed this fence and after what seemed like an eternity of a driveway I rung the doorbell. An old lady in her seventies answered the door wearing some fancy silver thing on her head with shiny bits on it. She invited me in. The name of the house was something like Buckingham which was a bit strange as the lady said her name surname was 'The Second.' As I walked through this big house I could see it was a family of Ferry fans. Her son Charlie had mastered Bryan's posh voice but was having elocution lessons to add a Northern Lilt. She had a son called Andy and her husband's name was Phillip. She had 2 little corgi dogs called Bryan & Brian eating their Pedigree Chum from For Your Pleasure dog bowls (they must be real anoraks I thought). She showed me some niceclassical pictures hanging on her wall. Beside each picture was a little switch and when you pressed it the picture turned round, like in a bond movie, to display some of the finest and rarest pictures I've ever seen of Bryan and Roxy. Gold and silver discs everywhere. As I passed through one of the corridors I caught sight of her husband playing air guitar in front of the mirror with home made fly glasses to the sounds of Beauty Queen. "….Elizabeth please believe this never could work out…" he sang, but I didn't want to correct his lyrics and embarrass him . Andy and a girl called Fergie who had hair that was a deadly shade of jungle red were blasting out Let's Stick Together from a rather ornate looking Hi-Fi. I was introduced to her grandsons Willie and Harry. They were surfing the net at the time. The older one gave me his e-mail address Monquiboy@palace .com. I was introduced to her daughter too who was obviously a big fan of Mother Of Pearl as she called her own daughter Zara. Lizzie then invited me down to see what she described as 'The Crown Jewel' And behind lots of security vaults was a highly guarded glass case which contained the original master tapes of the Gas Board gigs Ferry did in the 60's. She was a very kind lady and gave me a sleeping bag to rest my weary head on the settee. I headed off to Stockman Towers in the morning to find Martin lying in the hallway very much hungover with a toothpaste sandwich stuck to his chest, his shoes were neatly hanging on the hat rack and the cat was merrily chomping away at the baked beans in its food tray and slurping away at the Guinness in it's bowl. I helped Martin tidy up by standing on his shoulders to rescue his boxer shorts from the curtain rail. We dreamed up a story about the broken lampshade and hope his wife believes that it is a sculpture he got from Tate modern. Other than all that, the evening was quite quiet really.
