I read an interview with Paul Weller over the weekend and he seemed incapable of forming a sentence without the word fuck in it. In fact I had a bad weekend all round. Some good friends are splitting up and rowing in front of their children, a cousin of mine has had a disabled baby. And, of lesser import but galling nonetheless, I scored a duck at cricket. The thought of Bryan downing stout in his waders and sharing crack with some toothless old Paddies brings a smile to my face. It wasn't the complete group. Andrew was busy doing lighting for a new show (You were missed-he's talented and in demand folks!). However myself, Kim ( now a BLOND folks-yes there are pics!!) AND from out of town ( Anchorage to be exact) the lovely ( and even more BLOND!!!) Karen Roth. Two Sirens!!!!!! Hmm..... We had a nice but short visit. Part of the reason was that yours truly got lost on the way to the meeting place ( the Schaumburg Hyatt). Even though it was near the main ariport and I've been THERE a million times ( more recently a month ago),yet I still missed the turnoff and got lost. Luckily for me my trusty companion Ms. Kim steered me on the right path ( no laughing out there Kim!!!). We made it late but nevertheless made it. The meeting did not take place in Chicago proper because Karen was attending a convention in Schaumburg ( a suburb of Chicago) so we went to visit her. We had a good time sharing Bryan stories and trading Avalon gossip . Kim and I might make it to England next year for a visit. We bitched about some recent postings. Which ones? Well you just have to guess... Jim Lawn- we just don't get what the fuss is all about. We each bought rounds of drinks ( expensive ones too!) and just had a good time. The time went by fast. It would have lasted longer but Kim and I had to get back because we both had work the next morning (damn!). I know Karen wanted to party on and if she ever comes back it will happen (at another Disco....). One thing about the whole get together. We all agreed that this list has bought people together that would NEVER had met. We all shared the fact being a Roxy/Bryan fan has been a frustrating existance in America. You European fans have no idea since Bryan is over THERE an is appreciated for the talented person that he is. It's been so hard to talk about our shared passion to others who have not a clue as to who they are and what they mean/meant over the years. Again America only knows Roxy via Love it the Drug and to a lesser degree- Avalon. Of the three that night I had the longest memories going back to 1973. Karen and Kim came aboard right around Flesh and Blood. Kim still thinks Jeri Hall is a bitch and once uopn a time I did too, but not now. We agreed to disagree on this chapter of Avalonia. Photos were taken!!! Karen and Kim will get them developed and send them to the Webmistress. It was a document of the moment and I'm glad it happened. Don't worry Kim your Siren status will be enhanced. Karen I hope your trip back was safe (!!!) and we will hook up again-don't stop the dance(ing). Kim, you know you got a freind here ( and you got back safely-Ha!). Jas Ps: I Saw Los Lobos Friday night. THEY ROCKED!!!!!!!!! One of the best if not the best band out there.
