'K-Scope' and 'Primtive Guitars' sont arrivees... Dear All, The new Manzanera remasters landed on my doormat this morning and they're absolutely awful. Quite the worst remastering....no, only kidding, they're FABULOUS !!! 'Listen Now !' has bass like I never realised existed and the track 'Rude Awakening' (which previously only appeared on the compilation 'Guitarissimo') now provides a bridge between side on and side two, segueing into 'Que?'. Simon Phillips drums on 'Island' are now mountainous slabs of percussion crashing into a tropical ocean while 'Initial Speed' (now restored to its original non-reverbed snare intro) is the sheer adrenaline rush you always remembered it to be. 'Postcard Love' is more forlorn than ever and still one of the most direct and affecting lyrics anyone has ever written (and Simon Phillips has finally been given the credit he was denied on the original sleeve, as I had requested). The slowed-down extra track of 'Remote Control' shows what a lick of speed can do to a song, while 'Blue Gray Uniform' (on first listen) reminds me of Pete Townshend... I just wish I had more time to listen before I have to go out...(sob)...Oh well, there's always tomorrow ! Net traffic is flowing great the past couple of days, lots of road-kill. Too bad I-95 and 66 aren't - only a viral epidemic could help there. Bored? Come south, help me swelter in my garden. Just try digging here, they didn't name the place Clifton because of the clay. Big Find Yesterday - a fantastic white quartz (very pure) arrowhead! Makes me wonder about the grave site 200 feet away. It is a defined historic graveyard listed with Fairfax County. The seven to twelve graves are undisturbed, occupants unknown. It is believed the buried were either homesteaders or soldiers. A tombstone for a young girl was found during excavation for our home. But now the arrowhead I've found, coupled with the fact that the grave sites nearby are not marked, are sunken and covered by large rocks (indicating the bodies were not encased, and likely given a hasty "Christian burial") makes me wonder what the exact chronology of this local is. There were intra Native American battles, there were American Civil War battles, quite possibly battles for American independence from England were fought here. God knows the carnage still rages today (all those civilized people shooting, stabbing, you know). Lord, I've got to stop building on battlegrounds - I had a home at Waterloo, just under the Lion. God awful, bloody mess that was. More soldiers died in those two days than in the decade-plus of American soldier deaths of the informal" war" of Vietnam! Morbid, yeah. My motto: Got to keep on moving or I'll die. Bored, Heather? How is that possible? T'ank you, thank you! If Microsoft hadn't been so fawningly eager to provide so much power in such an easy-to-use, simple-to-abuse feature as they did with VBScripting, we wouldn't be in this mess in the first place. And if MickeySoft didn't provide all this software with the vulnerabilities/ er, I mean FEATURES turned on from the onset, it wouldn't even have mattered as much that they WERE so vulnerable. I heard an estimated figure Friday that it would cost industry $100 Million for all the system administrator time and user-hours lost in this fiasco. Some of the artists I am considering so far include Roxy/Ferry, Bowie, T. Rex, Eno, NY Dolls, Sparks. Those are the ones that I still have on vinyl or CD. For those of you on the list who were, like me, a glitter rock fan back in the 70s, do you have any suggestions of other artists I should track down? They don't necessarily have to fit into a stringent glam/glitter mold, but just be representative of the music scene back then. And if anybody knows of a source for mp3s of this type, please e-mail me off-list :) Regards, Jim R. - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon Name the source: "I've got enough attitude to kill everyone in New Jersey." ------------------------------ End of avalon-digest V5 #178 **************************** ======================================================================== For further info, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: info avalon-digest
