Its not cowboys , or like (Dallas) the TV show. Its big buildings, land ,homes, Mansions. A lot of wealth is in Texas." Austin," a neighboring town, is filled with movie stars living there. They've discovered its a good place to have a second home. So many movies are now being shot in Texas, its easier to be close to the action . We have a lot of Celebrities living in Dallas, we see them in rest. shopping , at golf clubs . Its so common people aren't even (gah- gah) over them. Jerry Hall was a 17 yr. old discovered by one of the modeling agencies here. She is from a small suburb of Dallas. She left for New York, soon after with a modeling career. She comes back to visit often & hobnobs with the rich & famous in Dallas. She was here not long ago, our local paper does a very good job keeping tabs on their wealthy counterparts. You see so much money is given to different organizations , no one wants their name left out. I do have to say , the wealthy here have so much they do give a lot back to the city. but they get something, they have there name on it to show they gave. We talk about Jerry, she was wealthier on her own . She had more than Jagger. She was just a teen when her & Bryan were a item. Maybe its Bryan who wants to see her , & not the other way around. This could be some of Bryans so called tiredness ,depression . He's toured way to long this time. He's tired & its taking its toll. Worried about something , home, maybe ? He needs a long rest & then to the studio to make a hit , get it out. Tour again with bigger concert halls, & have the people flock to see him. It's, as almost as if these evenings are spoiled by the fact we have to go and watch some one singing for an hour and a half. So then to the Gore:- I'm a stranger far from home and it can be a bit daunting for a poor country boy who lives in the middle of nowhere surrounded by nothing but sheep entering such a grand place in the heart of the big city. Who knows what you'll see, who you might meet: -Robert Fedder, Martin Stockman and his daughter Rachael, Ivor Canning, Richard J. Andrew Shearer, Reecey, Simon G, and at the gig Richard Swift, Chris Turner and I replied "hello" to a few "hello John"s wondering who's that again?? Sorry forgetting your names, whoever you were. Emma who found you all rather friendly to delight in your company accompanied me and still she recalls the thrill of it all. You will all find my collection on sale at E-Bay to help me pay back my bar bill as it cost about the price of an Island label Japanese 7" for a wee dram. (a small whisky for those of you who are Scottishlly challenged) The time has come it's getting late, it's now or never don't hesitate or stall as I think I'll walk out in the rain to take the high road to the venue, it's all that heavy weather we're going through. 6 gigs of this tour under my belt already. What's in store for me here tonight? And so it gets to seven and I think of something as I sit in almost darkness. I am sitting in the front row, which has only 25 seats, and boy did I feel honoured. And then I step back thinking of this magnificent venue and how much a thrill for Bryan to play in such a place when I remembered that my late father played there in a brass band competition in the 50's. I felt so proud of him and a wee bit emotional inside imagining him on that stage. God knows I'm beside myself, if a tear's a crime then I must confess, my guilty secret I'm not ashamed take me as I am, an average man. The tour managers tells Julie "go" she says "yes" dim the lights and now for the rest. This beauty queen strolls on to the stage her face is her fortune, she's got a harp of gold. There's that melody again as her fingers gliding so far that the eye cannot follow, that strange beginning has no ending as the last vibrations of the harp strings fade into a hesitant applause. In every dream band a string quartet with angelic eyes. As they say, four can play with much communication in a motion without conversation or a notion these girls can take you higher than the Milky Way. And now for another night with the boys, taking their place behind their manuscripts notes spell out the score. Two tunes tonight instead of the usual one and then the moment I've all being waiting for, those opening brush strokes on the snare for The Way You Look Tonight. A few bars in and on comes the first son of a pit pony handler to grace the Albert Hall stage. In fine voice, sounding fuller and stronger through the years, the hair halfway towards the fringe we are more familiar with. The jacket looking the same colours and style as the rest of the band but looking ten times the price. Love Me Or Leave Me almost segued to the opening number opens the way for a stroll through these vintage years. Bryan reminisces about his 1974 show there as he introduces Smoke Gets In Your Eyes, impeccable as usual. Chance Meeting, inspired by Brief encounter that same old movie that's haunting me, was so …. so …. so …. so …. so …. words don't express my meaning. Carrickfergus with the emerald coloured stage tugged at my heartstrings as the harp strings were plucked with amazing grace. Bryan, the hero so many times at these shows snarled his way through Casanova and had the audience dancing in their seats. Where Or When gave me the smile that I was smiling when I first heard it at Golders Green. The man's quite good you know. part 2 coming up J.O'B. - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon Name the source: "I've got enough attitude to kill everyone in New Jersey." ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 13 Apr 2000 15:03:31 EDT From: JObinv01@aol.com Subject: [AVALON] Bryan and Albert (part 2) Every once in a while, when the show's in full swing some can laugh and some can sing stand in line or get on down and swing. Lucy signals to the road crew that her bow is in need of repair, who can mend broken strings? Then out of the blue that song came rushing in. The oboe playing the opening melody half borrowed from Faure's Pavane and the strings caress the bow as Bryan plays the air cello. This is a music lesson for me, dear John Doh Rah Me Fa Soh. Zeff plays the Johnny Gustaffson lick for the second time as we wait in anticipation for the Eddie Jobson solo. With that violin from the time of her first caress to the final fling Lucy Wilkins, lipstick and leather, boogaloo's a rhapsody divine. There is only one thing better than watching this played by a beautiful girl on violin and that's 3. The sweetest queens I've ever seen stand up to join Lucy for the last 8 bars. Wow!!!!, who can sleep in this heat this night The Only Face dedicated to three of his sons and his wife Lucy who were in the audience was played beautifully by Bryan on the piano. His hands usually stay in the middle area of the piano for this song, but tonight he used several octaves on his right hand, really pretty. The synth strings during the second and third verse of Oh Yeah was always one of those little bits that made the hair on the back of my neck stand. To hear this done with real strings was such a treat. This was always one of Bryan's more melodic songs and fits perfectly with these finely crafted 30's songs. Andrew Shearer tapped me on the shoulder as the road crew brought out a small mike stand to the font of the stage as Avalon began. He said "that's saxophone height" Wishfull thinking had us waiting on Andy Mackay but then Enricco Tomasso approached the mike to play Yanicke's part. It worked so much better with him at the front of the stage. With the dim lights and the mirror ball with the laser pointing at it, I stumble through the dark dream lovers dream apart starry eyed a vision rushes in. Jealous Guy is just one of those things we know Bryan will always do. Sometimes a singer finds the right song to sing and when a match made in heaven arrives, eternity is never enough. Right on cue the Avalonians move to the front stage area. We all gather in the same area looking at each other with lip sync on Let's Stick Together, and we did right up until the show finished. Oh how we dance the spirit holding us in a trance. We just danced away through every song with the same enthusiasm we had 5-6 gigs ago. The sensation in Do The Strand is as new and fresh as it was 27 years ago. All of a sudden it's over. The Sphynx and Mona Lisa Lolita and Guernica, Jocelyn and Reecey Emma and John, Richard and Andrew, Ivor and Simon did the….. Strand. We wait, eagerly expecting another encore like the night before with As Time Goes By, heaven knows it's hard enough to pray, but then lights up and now the ballroom's empty and everybody I've known have been and gone. There's a dozen roadies, packing up, to say it all. I didn't know which way to turn, if you were me would you walk out in style? And now the party's over it's time to head back to the Gore. Out in the cold, in the wilderness again, the few of us who didn't get caught robbing a bank on the way there to pay for the drink chatted away about the show and how, before we headed off on our merry ways, how we hope to see each other at Petworth I hope I see you all there Well I'm back in the country air and all of its joys while my sheep are still bleating Regards John O'Brien - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon Name the source: "I've got enough attitude to kill everyone in New Jersey." ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 13 Apr 2000 12:07:02 -0700 (PDT) From: Noam Bronstein Subject: Re: [AVALON] 3 and 9 and jerry Mark, It's the number of glasses of Scotch it takes to forget about her. 3 on a good day. 9 on a bad day... It has a 5:38 version which was recorded around 1991/2. It misses out the intro section and is a lot funkier. LOL! but then 'ouch' ... my apologies to everyone: the jerry hall ref. to '3 & 9' was an attempt at humor. HOWEVER, i still say there's something awfully spooky about 'prarie rose' - whatever the hell it's about. [a celebration of *texas* - yeah, right.] a last thought re: russell's 'concept' idea re: 'country life' -- i find it very, *very* interesting that ferry would put 'triptych' running right up against 'casanova' ... 'surely he will rise again', then [with almost no segue to] the scathing 'casanova ... another loser'. surely someone else has noticed this? quite a contrast, no? and one more (!) - does anyone know the english translation for the german passage in 'bittersweet'? i think i've gotten most of it, but it no make no sense ... thanks/peaces/ms ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon Name the source: "I've got enough attitude to kill everyone in New Jersey." ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 13 Apr 2000 21:47:13 +0200 From: "Sebastian Fasthuber" Subject: Re: [AVALON] that old '12 scotches' song > and one more (!) - does anyone know the english translation for the german > passage in 'bittersweet'? i think i've gotten most of it, but it no make no > sense ... about the only situation in which an Austrian is OK right now: "no - this is not the end of the world stranded in/on ?
