Won't be able to make this one but it might be of interest to someone. Ferry was in Dublin a couple of weeks ago at the launch of The Heineken Green Energy Festival. A few pictures appeared in the paper of our good man and there was even a brief television interview. Looking dapper as ever and the question remains: where the hell does he get that hair dye from? I reckon the odds are a bit better than 10%, after all we already know that "Slave To Love", "The Best of Roxy The Early Years" and the Feery Box set have been given provisional release dates. The current plan seems to be that they want something at regular price out at the same time as the box set.The only candidates for this other than the studio album would be the Roxy BBC Sessions or a live album from this tour. Which ever way it works out I think we are in for a bumper year especially with the possible release of a follow up to the "Valentine" cd, various reissues and new products by Manzanera, and a new release by Andy Mackay. Btw, haven't things gone quiet on the Makay front of late. I wonder if he is finishing off his new album or working on the same stuff as Manzanera. Only time will tell. Cheers, Tom. - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon Name the source: "I've got enough attitude to kill everyone in New Jersey." ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 9 Apr 2000 15:06:52 +0200 From: "Sebastian Fasthuber" Subject: Re: [AVALON] Jobson, Ferry, Roxy. > Which ever way it works out I think we are in for a bumper year well, i only got into rm/bf over the last year and do now have all the official releases except 2 ferry-solo-albums. i seem to be very lucky, because all the 'old' fans have had a hard time waiting for releases - old or new ones- and they have been waiting for years. i only have to wait a few months. which brings me to another point: if your scenario comes true, i may be pleased for a certain time. but after that there must come a sudden depression as i have been busy buying rm/bf-stuff for two years and suddenly there will be nothing to look for. have to get this thought out of my head. sebastian - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon Name the source: "I've got enough attitude to kill everyone in New Jersey." ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 08 Apr 2000 21:11:50 -0600 From: "Jim Jankiewicz" Subject: [AVALON] Retro Roxy & a Desert Island 5 or two If we can get on a tangent from the fortunate ones on this Roxy list who live in England and can somehow manage to follow BF on his castle tours, I would like to chime in here with my obsession with "Amazona." I am so drawn to this song whenever I need a quick boost for whatever life ales me or I need my RM fix. From its shuffling skip rhythm, exotic lyrics of "...from El Dorado", to the fantastic bridge workout where Manzanera takes me to the stratos realms of (dare I say) Hendrix where it all then comes crashing down to Ferry's fizzing to "...we're almost there..." finale - I just keep going back to it!! (History: "Out Of The Blue" on the radio was the 1st real impact song that brought me into RM when it came out and from there I went back and found early RM and then followed the guys up to now. I only caught Bryan 3Xs that he appeared in Minneapolis ('77? at the Guthrie to his solo's in the 80's and 90's) but he has remained my #1 draw - even over Bruce and others.) Here's my crux: if I were to go back in time to introduce a rock hound (like I was back then and now) to RM, I would throw "Amazona" at 'em. Anyone else think this is a vastly overlooked, underrated song? It is definitely in my top 3 RM/BF tracks and all-time rock songs. As to my "current" top 5 desert island albums, try this: Royal Scam -Steely Dan Avalon - RM Captain Beyond -s/t Shapes and Patterns - Swing Out Sister Birds Of Passage - Bel Canto (hmm...for that 2nd island) A Passage In Time - Dead Can Dance Boys and Girls - Bryan Ferry Here Come The Warm Jets - Brian Eno Kaleidoscope World - Swing Out Sister Ziggy Stardust - Bowie Thanks for reading all this! ~JJ - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon Name the source: "I've got enough attitude to kill everyone in New Jersey." ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 09 Apr 2000 10:13:13 -0400 From: KB Porter Subject: Re: [AVALON] The Past "ATGB" US Dates. I was psyched mountains high, was finally going to see the music artist who mesmerized me fifteen years ago. I had tickets in my arthritic hand and the Nightclub 9:30 Canceled!!! John, the shows were so poorly promoted that I (accidently) learned of the tour via Virgin's web site - and we all know how dated they are. I've got to go lick my re-opened wound. At times, the spin I've given my misfortune - that sometimes it's best not to know too much (akin to familiarity breeds contempt) about the object of one's adoration - just doesn't suppress the pain. It would be ironic if the Roxy reunion (am I the only one not at all convinced this is a good idea?) was preceded by a revival in Ferry's solo profile. Maybe he could call it off if his new LP does well ! One wildcard, that might make the idea of a reunion more tempting to BF, at BF's age, is the idea of socking away one (or two) last scores of cash before retirement (forced or otherwise). And I would not doubt, that financial concerns, not artistic, would factor in any RM renunion more than any other single consideration. I.E. BF is not going to round up the old gang for nostalgia and a lark, if he rounds them up, it will be a business venture, to revive his career, to restore larger interest in the number one investment of his artistic and financial life, his BACK CATALOGUE. At this point he's not just looking at his ability to record regularly, but his legacy. Look what Bowie managed out of essentially 1 hit LP worldwide. And if BF's quotes about shifting from writing the music first, to writing the lyrics/vocal line first (to expediate the process) then maybe there is some small chance he'll get back to something close to the previous productivity in his career. Hard to believe the days of like 3 LP's in 18 months... - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon Name the source: "I've got enough attitude to kill everyone in New Jersey." ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 9 Apr 2000 16:45:06 EDT From: ASchulberg@aol.com Subject: Re: [AVALON] Slave To Swedes In a message dated 04/09/2000 2:42:58 PM Eastern Daylight Time, eman96@gte.net writes: << Slave to Love is an enjoyable little compilation.
