Can anybody else recount their memories of the earlier concerts? Jocelyn you must have some stories? Andrew Oooh I do, I do. 'Twas a crisp freezing November weekend, the smell of bonfires still hung heavy in the air even though it was a week on from Guy Fawkes, the light was that very special purple hour just before evening lapses into the dark shroud of night. An excited 15 year old in nylon bomber jacket and silver platforms clumped her way to the 345 bus stop, a pink pass to paradise clutched tightly in her hand. Having a father who wrote a record column for the local Newcastle Evening Chronicle - (does anyone remember Fiske's Discs?!) meant that all tickets for the Newcastle City Hall winged their way to the Fiske household. Thankfully there had been few fallings out with "the big sister" since the single Beatles ticket in 1964 caused a near riot in the front room, so when the Rainmaker/ East of Eden/ Roxy Music ticket arrived I nabbed it. After all I was the one who drove the whole of the 6th form crazy with my advanced copy of Roxy Music (again thanks Dad), so as I saw it, it was my birthright. Up in the balcony my heart raced in anticipation. Out of the darkness a single blue spot lit up a strange slicked back stick insect of a man with a clarinet? a soprano sax? No, an oboe. An oboe in a 70's band? This was going to be one very unusual night. The strains of Ladytron wafted over us, haunting us, mesmerising us, tantalising us. We were lost. Like vampires our lives were not our own again. We were now Roxy girls. Saturday 11th November 1972 Balcony seat L33 80p. And even to this day the smell of bonfires take me right back, when we were young. Very hard choices, but i'd have to go for these... 1) Roxy Music : For Your Pleasure 2) T.Rex : The Slider 3) Moody Blues : On The Threshold Of A Dream (actually, don't like this Band much, but for some reason adore this Album). 4) Malcolm McLaren : Paris 5) Tom Waits : Swordfishtrombones STOP PRESS : The Scottish Parliament have just passed a ruling that everyone is allowed a 'Top 30' Albums, as long as there isn't any Tina Turner, Celine Dion, Chicory Tip, Michael Bolton, Erasure, Cher, Bon Jovi, or Bryan Adams, and if 30 different Artists are named. Unfortunately, if anyone has any of the above Artists mentioned, they only get a Top 5 - on 8 track cassette.. Don't blame me, hey I don't make the rules... Therefore, in no particular order... 6) Sensational Alex Harvey Band : The Impossible Dream 7) Mono : Formica Blues 8) Nina Simone : Feeling Good 9) The Rutles : The Rutles 10) Colin Blunstone : Ennismore 11) The Beatles : With The Beatles 12) Sparks : Propaganda 13) Joni Mitchell : Hejira 14) Dexter Gordon : Go 15) Cockney Rebel : The Psychomodo 16) Ezio : Black Boots On Latin Feet 17) Eno : Here Come The Warm Jets 18) The Shangri-las : Remember... 19) Simon and Garfunkel : Bookends 20) The Tubes : The Tubes 21) The Troggs : Singles Anthology 22) Kenny Burrell : Midnight Blue 23) David Bowie : Aladdin Sane 24) Donna Summer : A Love Trilogy (yeah, I know, it's a remember the first-love teenage type snogging behind the bike-shed with Linda Taylor type thing - don't ask) 25) Emmylou Harris : Wrecking Ball 26) Chet Baker : Let's Get Lost 27) Bjork : Homogenic 28) Barry Adamson : Oedipus Schmoedipus 29) The Kinks : Ultimate Collection 30) Elvis Costello : Imperial Bedroom If 30 isn't enough for you, J. O'B said he might sneak a few extra in under his kilt. I await to see your choices, with great interest. And - is it obvious that I'm not very busy today ? I remember Lester was musing that someone had asked Bry if he dyed his hair (_These Foolish Things_ era). natch, Bry denied it, only to add that maybe it was just "darkened."
