Now your secret is out, J. O'B. However, not so much the mime with the cricket bat for me, but only the very best quality broom handle, nicked from the kitchen, with one of my brothers microphones taped to the top of it (when he was out and wouldn't notice its absence). Then, adorned with Shirt a la epalettes & RM patches on sleeves, where, for a short time, I WAS Bryan Ferry. Yours, slightly grimacing whilst going 'Yeah" ! ... at the end of All I want Is You... Reecey... PS It's what I always refer to as 'Roxy Day' tomorrow, April 6th, whereby if i'm at work (which I am tomorrow) only Roxy can be played in my Shop - all day. Not even BF solo is allowed on this special day. The reason ? It's my 27th 'anniversary' tomorrow, 27 years to the day in fact, when I saw Roxy Music for the very first time, April 6th, 1973, at the (then) Greens Playhouse, Glasgow. Seat CC42 in the Balcony, don't ya know, the Ticket a mere snip at 60p. Support was Lloyd Watson (chum of Manzos - think he played on a few of his solo bits later) then followed by the excellent Sharks, who of course featured Chris Spedding (though I was rather oblivious to that fact at the time). First number : 'Do The Strand'. I always thought it was weird how there was no-one actually at 'centre-stage' for most of the gig. Eno on the left behind banks of keyboards and twiddly things with strange names, Ferry on the right. Only during the final numbers did Ferry venture, rather nervously, to the centre. Manzo with THOSE glasses. Mackay with the bubble trousers. Couldn't even see Thommo behind the massive kit. Encore : 'Grey Lagoons', with Eno changed from the wonderful peacock jacket (I'm still waiting for that damn thing to turn up at a memorabilia auction - then it's mine !) to a silver glam number, beating a tambourine and sharing backing vox on 'Lagoons' with our Mr. Riff... Bought the poster advertising FYP at the gig (since lost - will pay good dosh for another !) and went home, and life, frankly, would never be the same again. Tomorrow will be, as they say, a musical orgasm. I used to spend hours trying to perfect the new Ferry look, but some how it never looked the same on me. My Roxy day would have to be when i first saw them live at Leicester uni. in late summer 72 (someone tell me the exact date please?) when I fell in love with the music & the image , God they were exciting!!!!!!! "Would You Believe" especially is etched on the memory In a perverse sort of way I miss all night queing for tickets when you'd strike up a friendship with fellow Roxy fans and sing entire albums all night long, ridiculing anyone who got a word wrong (usually me!) in today's hi-tech age it's all gone. I used to travel everywhere with a friend , who sadly died in 84 his (and mine) fave was (is?) Street Life , so i'm sure he'll be watching at the RAH and we'll both be singing- "Wish everybody would leave me alone yeah..." Steve ps i was only allowed a tennis racket my elder brother had the cricket bat, Ive never forgave him!! - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon Name the source: "I've got enough attitude to kill everyone in New Jersey." ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 6 Apr 2000 20:12:54 -0500 (CDT) From: MarlanaK@webtv.net (Mary Korfanty) Subject: [AVALON] Re: Making the list The Music Page of my Morning News had something interesting . The Music Staff were asked to list five albums that would be essential to their survival ,if stranded on a desert Island for their musical sanity. T. Gubbins chose these five. # 1- BRIAN ENO & ROBERT FRIPP , Evening Star ( 1975 ) # 2- ROBERT FRIPP, Exposure ( 1979 ) # 3- BRIAN ENO , Music for Airports ( 1978 ) # 4- FLYING SAUCER ATTACK , Distance ( 1994) # 5- DAVID BOWIE , Low ( 1977 ) Four others, but no one chose our,( Mr. Ferry.) What would be some of your choices, if you were stranded ? Another flash ---- U2 & Various Artists- The Million Dollar Hotel . Just out & features Daniel Lanois & BRIAN ENO. Interviewed by a blond US girl. Bryan could avoid telling her that we he met Dali for the first time, he was sitting in a car crowded with superb blond girls "like you are", he said. The same old Bryan eye in eye with a blond lady... It was an interseting programme as he told things that I didn't know. He had his white socks! We saw some parts of the London concert where some of you were. The images seem to be recorded by Virgin as on the bottom of the screen it said "Virgin images". Very nice shots there. He said recorded some songs that were mixed in studio three years ago. These are "lying somewhere in a cellar, like old wine, getting better". These images can be used for APS 2! (Martin, I'm not forgetting you!) I heard this piano-guitar version of WYSLMT,it is fantastic. I think it is much better than the album version. One of my favourites now. I'm getting married on May, 20 and will surely keep that one for the church celebration. I'm also trying to find a song for the final part of the ceremony. Any ideas? I thought that let's stick together could do it but in a church,... not the best choice! Have a great sunny w-e! Psalm struck the right note for my nuptuals, the lyrics projected from the pulpit of Armagh Cathedral by my Best Man. Afterwards, flashbulbs popping, chainsmoking priests would tug at my Morning Coat, pondering which poet was resonsible for the extraordinary liturgy. Nowadays, of course, the ecumenical capital of All Ireland is a shrine to twentieth century English bard Bryan Ferry. The rest is history. pip pip Martino - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon Name the source: "I've got enough attitude to kill everyone in New Jersey." ------------------------------ End of avalon-digest V5 #139 **************************** ======================================================================== For further info, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: info avalon-digest
