Those interested will already know that First Kiss is the most complete collection of these historic sessions, but my question is.... ...does anyone have any of the "missing" tracks from these sessions? First is the complete seesion from October 1972, songs performed - The BOB Medley, For Your Pleasure and The Bogus Man Part 2 (Grey Lagoons). The other is the March 1973 session, from which "In Every Dream Home A Heartache" is missing. Although the Rebubbles boot claims to have that track, I am reliably informed that it is infact the Musikladen version. If you have any (or all) of these tracks and can help me in my quest then please contact me off list at simong@jazzfm.com BBC Sessions are a bit of a Holy Grail for me, it took me 12 years to get all of David Bowie's, 6 years for The Who, and Roxy has been in progress for about 11 years. Simon digs into prehistory: '...does anyone have any of the "missing" tracks from these sessions? ' You mention an October session but it's not listed (Bryan had his tonsils out around this time, didn't he ?) in the Ken Garner bible ('In Session Tonight') which gives this info on Roxy's BBC sessions: Broadcast: 21/1/72 - (recorded 4/1/72) Remake/Remodel, B.O.B. Medley, Would You Believe ?, If There Is Something (& Sea Breezes - broadcast 18/2/72) Broadcast: 23/6/72 - (recorded 23/5/72) Bitters End, 2HB, Chance Meeting, Ladytron Broadcast: 1/8/72 - (recorded 18/7/72) Virginia Plain (& If There Is Something, possibly not broadcast) Broadcast: 9/11/72 - (recorded 6/11/72) The B.O.B. Medley, For Your Pleasure, The Bogus Man Pt 2 Broadcast: 8/3/73 - (recorded 5/3/73) Editions Of You, Pyjamerama (sic), In Every Dream Home A Heartache. (Garner doesn't however mention 'Do The Strand' which was *definitely* recorded in this session - perhaps it got confused with 'IEDH' ?) There is also an (unconfirmed) contract file entry for a recording of 'Pyjamarama' for 28/2/73. So, if the 'First Kiss' sleeve notes are to be believed, you already have all of the 21/1/72 (easily identified by the 'O'List effect'), 23/6/72 and 1/8/72 broadcasts on Disc 1. It also credits a version of 'Virginia Plain' to this last session, but this is not verified by the BBC records. The remaining sessions are patchier, however. The 1973 session is mostly covered on 'First Kiss' (i.e. 'Editions Of You', 'Pyjamarama' and 'Do The Strand', which I can also verify from a BBC tape I made circa 1978 along with the O'List recordings). Which leaves the 9/11/72 broadcast and the mysterious 'IEDH' unaccounted for. 'First Kiss' has a brace of tracks 'The Bob (medley)', 'Bogus Man Part 2', 'Sea Breezes', 'VP', 'Chance Meeting' and 'Remake Remodel' credited to 'In Concert' 1972 but which sound like studio or rehearsal recordings, some of which might be these very tracks. Any more for any more ? Regards, Ivor. BTW *ARRRGGGHHH*....In checking my archive cassette for this info, it ran off the end of the spool and is now rolled up inside the case - are there any cassette tape retrieval experts out there can give me advice on how to rescue this precious item ???? > NP Dread Zeppelin "Stairway To Heaven" mmmm....... Great fun, but have you heard the live Zappa (also reggae) version, with Page's guitar solo transcribed for horn section ? - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon Name the source: "I've got enough attitude to kill everyone in New Jersey." ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 4 Apr 2000 15:36:35 -0400 From: "Gene" Subject: Re: [AVALON] Roxy Music's BBC Sessions - -----Original Message----- From: JFROXY@aol.com To: avalon@smoe.org Date: Tuesday, April 04, 2000 12:25 PM Subject: Re: [AVALON] Roxy Music's BBC Sessions >The IEDH on the "Re-bubbles" boot is definitely from Musikladen, easy to spot >as he forgets the "my breath is inside you" lyric and just mumbles something. Well this is definately the versions that show up on the "When We Were Young" and "Street Life" boots, the only version I have of this but there are no dates listed. BTW, I`ve just come across yet another collection of BBC/Top Gear/Out-takes on a CD boot called Bittersweet. If someone could post the track list and dates of the First Kiss boot, perhaps we can idenify what else is missing. Those interested will already know that First Kiss is the most complete collection of these historic sessions, but my question is.... Just a side note. The title from above "First Kiss" is actually the original title of "The Numberer"(a rock instrumental by Andy Mackay), which was on the flip side of Virginia Plain.
