I've never understood why so many people dislike this album. I think that it's one of the best covers albums that Ferry has produced. I admit that I've never been a big fan of "I Put A Spell On You" or "Amazing Grace", but I love the versions of "All Tomorrow's Parties" and "Rescue Me". The feel of "Taxi" is mostly very dark, when you compare it to the likes of "These Foolish Things" and "Another Time, Another Place" it's a much more interesting and complex piece of work. One real disapointment for me was the fact that Ferry didn't perform his version of "All Tomorrow's Parties" on the "Mamouna" tour. All the best, Tom. You're not alone, Thom. I love this album. There are people who are not Bryan Ferry fans who like this album as well. I think those of us who have known Bryan since his days in Roxy Music tend to like the more adventurous albums. I find Taxi to be very rich and rewarding given the fact that he tackled some hard songs to cover. The album is haunting and complex, but it doesn't sound that way on the surface -- very similar to Mamouna. In some cases he reworked the melodies of the songs. "Taxi" is one of my all-time favorite songs. It's absolutely wonderful. I love the versions of "Will you love me tomorrow" and "I put a spell on you" as well. I guess I am alone on that one... Of course you can say it! I'd never be so presumptuous to say "I know how you feel", but I support you in your right to dislike it! And I can somewhat understand how you feel about _Taxi_--I don't like all of it. But I do love the first side, especially "I Put A Spell On You" and "Will You Love Me Tomorrow" (about which I am in total agreement with the person whose post I inadvertently deleted re: the Jools Holland performance--that is a beautiful moment, as lovely as the part of "The Only Face" captured on "A Perfumed Sigh?).
