I have been listening each week on the off chance that they might play some more Golders Green, and this Saturday just gone they did! The artists for that show weren't announced, but during the hour there were live tracks from Mike And the Mechanics (yuk), Suzanne Vega (that was good but they just played the obvious three tracks, very safe), Joan Armourplating (someone wake me up) and finally, the last 13 minutes were devoted to Bryan's wonderful show at Golders Green. They aired Casanova and Septmeber Song which weren't on the original broadcast, and then Let's Stick Together and Do The Strand. Nice. Scratches on vinyl often look worse than they sound. Regardless, they can't be "repaired" this way without also damaging the music content. Realize you are dealing with tracking a tiny groove with all the information contained in oh-so-tiny 'wiggles' (modulations) along that groove. The 'sanding' method is actually good for polishing scratches out of plastic or acrylic items like the dust cover of your turntable, but if you place any value on your LP's, take a line from the late Rick Danko: "don't do it". Btw, I work for a company that makes toothpaste, I'm no chemist but I know they use a lot of abrasive (and unpronounceable) chemicals that would make you wonder about putting the stuff in your mouth much less on your records. MAY IT PLEASE THE COURT: Jason, it's your list, at least administratively. So as far as I'm concerned, you don't need anybody's vote down here to delete somebody. And once you've delegated that authority to the listmembers, I'm afraid that you'll be pestered more demands for votes every time someone gets crossways with another member. There is a better way. My email reader, Outlook Express, has a message filter that lets me delete mail from any sender that I choose to ignore. Most other readers have a similar feature. So may I suggest that you don't have to get bogged down in this childishness. Anybody who wants to ignore a particular member can simply add him, her or it to his, her or its killfile. And in the case of serious abuse, the offender can be reported to his, her or its ISP, which has the authority to shut down his, her or its account. You, as a volunteer list administrator, should not have to devote a second to the management of this list's members. RESPECTFULLY SUBMITTED: F.
