Bryan doing September Song, was done in 1951 by Stan Kenton & Bing
Crosby.
Speaking of Crosby, Crosby ,Stills Nash, & Young are in town doing a
Concert. Hell they sold out the Arena that holds 18,000. I'll be

Being told by fat-cat record industry elitist that they are *now* worthy of
*their* recognition is more of an insult than an honor. Who gives a s**t
what they think? The fans are the only ones with an opinion that matters. If
any real honors are to be bestowed, it should go to those like Ozzy
Osbourne/Black Sabbath for telling the R&R Hall fo Sham to get bent.
Just another opinion.

Absolutely.  I remember rushing home with it when it first came out and
being taken aback when the title track started, it was so different to
'Diamond Head' and '801 Live'.  By the time the Wurlitzer piano and Mel
Collins 'big band' finale kicked in, I was completely seduced by the sound
and feel of the album.  Things just got better and better.  The double
tracked guitars, 'Gizmo' cellos, Simon Phillips' earthshattering drums on
'Island' like a tropical storm, the whizziness of 'Que?', the rain streaked
soundscape of 'City of Light', the futuristic flash of 'Initial Speed' (and
that Phillips hi-hat work !), the sad little oasis of 'Postcard Love' (a
much overlooked and poignant track IMO) and the final bleak 'Room 101'
moment of  'Falling Feeling'.  It's amazing how PM manages to convey a
convincing (and human) sense of '1984' unease and paranoia in such a warm,
sumptuous production - to me this makes it doubly successful.

I agree with you (and most people here) about the Manzanera site.  They are
a very helpful bunch of people, too.  Hearing that 'Listen Now!' was about
to be re-released, I asked if they were going to finally acknowledge who the
drummer was on 'Postcard Love' (not credited on the original inner sleeve)
and they confessed that they had not noticed and no-one could remember for
sure (but they agreed the most likely candidate was Phillips).
Interestingly, they also told me that Bill Bruford originally demoed a
number of tracks for the album - not a lot of people know that (or at least
*knew* that) !!  If they can persuade PM to dust down those tapes, it would
be *very* interesting to hear...

Did you notice that the BBC session with Ainley, MacCormick, Dave Skinner
and Paul Thompson (superb versions of 'Falling Feeling', 'Law and Order',
'Remote Control') is also being released by Expression Records on a
'rarities' disc (although mysteriously, 'Out Of The Blue' from that session
seems to have been dropped).  About time, too - my original cassette of this
is almost threadbare.

I am now waiting (im)patiently for the remastered CD !!

much, except maybe some of FYP, which gets a lot of airtime in this house.

  My life would be incomplete without it. This list reminded me why I dug
RM/BF originally, and is the reason I  pulled out all the old vinyl. I just
listened to it a few days ago.
  DH is the gem of all the RM solo records. Not to mention the only
appearance of Eno and Eddie J. on the same song. ( Please feel free to
correct me, Mighty Gurus of Avalon )

I probably would feel this way about every old record I play.

It gets my vote. IMO one of the *most* underrated album of the '70`s along
with Eno`s Tiger Mnt/Warm Jets. I`ve been holding off dropping a massive
amount of money on the manzanera.com site for the remastered CDs (DH, 801
live etc.) until the new releases (801 at Hull etc.) come through. Then I`ll
be broke, but in heaven.

Yes, Mandy is Mandy Moore new teenybop to join the list, and recently added
to my daughters wall hanging with Christina, Brittany, Backstreet Boys, and
N'sync.  
I assume both your kids are boys!  If you had a 9yr. old girl (like myself),
you would have no hope!  lol

I have also had the unfortunate experience of seeing Backstreet Boys,
and N'sync in concert.  Very painful experience!!

movie that he named Flesh + Blood after the Roxy song, “because the main
character of the movie made him think of the girl portrayed in Flesh +
Blood ”.

This was the first time I think, that a movie was called after a Roxy Music
or Ferry song instead of the other way around.

Curious enough the compilation video of Roxy Music is called Total Recall, a
film directed by… Paul Verhoeven.

I heard "Listen Now" before "801 Live."  Not sure how that happened. 
All these years later, I remember it as clear as day...  I was a disc 
jockey at my college radio station.  I'm sitting here literally 
picturing the stacks of albums on the floor: "Blues For Allah," 
"Young Americans," "Jailbreak," "Original Soundtrack," "Katy Lied," 
"Presence," "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway," "Wish You Were Here." 
And the day that "Listen Now" came in, the program director was 
stunned.  I think we all were.  We'd never heard anything like it.  I 
remember getting very excited when I saw the Godley-Creme credits. 
Love that Gizmo!  I was already a Roxy fan, but this was... special. 
(Not that Roxy Music isn't special, don't get me wrong!)  But, you 
know what I mean.

I discovered that we also had "801 Live" (I was told it was even 
better) and so I alternated between the two from show to show.  And 
I'm MOST UNHAPPY to report that I have never heard "Diamond Head." 
Me dumb-dumb.

Would anyone care to compare "Diamond Head" with "Listen Now"?

Ivor, I loved your track-by-track descriptions.  Made me want to hear 
the album again for the millionth time.  And I WILL be getting the 
remastered "Listen Now."  And why did you have to mention that BBC 
sessions disc that's coming out?  Now I'm going to have to rob a bank.

William, thank you so much for the Simon Ainley link.  Made me feel 
very sad reading about how his beautiful voice got passed up when 
Phil did "K-Scope."  Mind you, the amazing Tim Finn got the job and I 
would never complain about that, but it's too bad someone else didn't 
snatch up Simon.  (Glad he's still singing, though.)

I could keep blabbing about Manzanera for quite some time, but I'll 
call it a night and pick this up again later.
