Hi everybody, I think I am the only italian member of this list and I'm glad to try to give Chris an answer. Next Monday, Bryan will give his first (as far as I know) concert here in Venice and I can't wait to see him alive. But... when I tell my friends about it, they mostly reply: "and who is B.F.??" - When I say "Roxy Music", then someone happen to say they've heard the name... that is to say R.M. were perhaps famous in the early 80s... and I feel so alone, there's nobody here I can share my passion with! The second answer is simply "never" - some time ago I heard within an hour "Don't stop the dance" and "The right stuff" but it was an event. On TV??? NO, absolutely never. Following: I would say no. Roxy and Bryan aren't among the groups that have an underground following, like instead U2, Queen, Nirvana... Some of their records can be found in very specialized music shops or stores, at interesting prizes. And -to close this short note- I apologize for my english too... I've never been to an english speaking country, & I admit sometimes I dont' even understand what _you_ write on this list :-( Ciao, CECILIA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Cecilia Tonon ***** http://helios.unive.it/~tcecilia ICQ# 45567631 pratic. consulente del lavoro dottoranda in diritto del lavoro, XI Dip. di diritto comparato dell'Unipd tel e -fax +39 049 8273492 -3479 italian PhD Association: http://www.dottorato.it sede di Venezia: http://www.dottorato.it/venezia ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~!!!!!!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ - -------------------- To disentangle yourself from these bickering numbnuts, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 3 Mar 2000 01:33:13 -0800 (PST) From: Irene Adler Subject: Re: [AVALON] Re : MMK's Review/Ferry as vampire? OK. The Massey Hall show is up and ready for downloading. I've also posted a few other surprises from my collection. Being fairly new to this list, my surprises may not be surprises to you. I belong to another list where an ftp site (for the list only) includes interviews, bootlegs, and even a copy of the bands rare first indie release, all in mp3 format plus jpegs, text file interviews.... This list seems to be able to go one step further by burning CD's of most of this material, not really supplying a need for such a site.....and now video!!!!!! What do you think? Anyway, my friend has graciously given me this space on his server for the Avalon list only. PLEASE DO NOT PUBLISH THE ADDRESS, LOGIN, AND PASSWORD TO THE REST OF THE WORLD. This site has been set up for our use only. Also, please note: At the moment this site has only download priveleges. If you think this site should continue and you have something to contribute, please let me know. If there is a majority in favour of using this to upload and download, my friend can very easily grant upload priveleges. From the sounds of it, there are people with Japan-only and Australia-only relases, with different remixes....but maybe they can be all burned on a CD. We've been talking about the 12" of "Is Your Love Strong Enough". I have the vinyl, someone has stated they have it on a CD.....I also have The Dumbells Christmas single, Andy Mackay's "Wild Weekend" single, and the 12" Midnight Mix of The Explorers "Falling For Nightlife" which I can post if anyone wants them. I don't want to step on anyone's toes here. If there someone's website has this capability, then I shall do the honourable thing. So without further ado, here is the pertinent info you need. ftp - 24.114.133.61 login - byron password - ferrari This will take you right into the Avalon folder. Since my friend has other folders on his server, we decided it would be better if there was direct access. He is also on a cable modem, if I'm not mistaken, so things should go through pretty fast. But like anything on the Net, speed can vary. There is also a folder within called "Non RM-For Von". That's for a friend of mine for other songs for him, so please ignore, unless you see something you like ;-). That's about it.... I got the file listing shown below, and, not to be greedy, I thought I'd download Carrickfergus, one of my all time favourites. Well, it got 30% of the way into the download then the download just hung. The "server" had gone away. I managed to exit the FTP program then tried again. I got a Timeout, and no connect. I guess @Home cable modems aren't reliable for real "server" use. -rwxrwxrwx 1 ftp ftp 678 Feb 28 18:52 README.txt -rwxrwxrwx 1 ftp ftp 1566720 Feb 28 19:13 00-Intro.mp3 -rwxrwxrwx 1 ftp ftp 3113984 Feb 28 20:00 01-The Way You Look Tonight.mp3 -rwxrwxrwx 1 ftp ftp 2957062 Feb 29 11:05 02-Love Me or Leave Me.mp3 -rwxrwxrwx 1 ftp ftp 2910668 Feb 29 11:16 03-Smoke Gets In Your Eyes.mp3 -rwxrwxrwx 1 ftp ftp 3628722 Feb 29 11:29 04-Carrickfergus.mp3 -rwxrwxrwx 1 ftp ftp 3228317 Feb 29 11:48 05-I Can't Get Started.mp3 -rwxrwxrwx 1 ftp ftp 2593152 Mar 1 12:37 08-You Do Something To Me.mp3 -rwxrwxrwx 1 ftp ftp 2357504 Mar 1 13:01 09-Falling In Love Again.mp3 -rwxrwxrwx 1 ftp ftp 2737024 Mar 1 13:16 10-Just One Of Those Things.mp3 -rwxrwxrwx 1 ftp ftp 5295360 Mar 1 13:44 11-Jealous Guy.mp3 -rwxrwxrwx 1 ftp ftp 3998848 Mar 1 14:05 06-The Only Face.mp3 -rwxrwxrwx 1 ftp ftp 6381568 Mar 1 14:40 07-Sunset.mp3 -rwxrwxrwx 1 ftp ftp 2791680 Mar 2 14:22 12-Let's Stick Together.mp3 -rwxrwxrwx 1 ftp ftp 3549310 Mar 3 10:13 13-Do The Strand.mp3 -rwxrwxrwx 1 ftp ftp 2774414 Mar 3 10:28 14-As Time Goes By.mp3 -rwxrwxrwx 1 ftp ftp 799556 Mar 3 10:39 15-Outro.mp3   -= )-(eather =- >------------------< hjames@thewebgal.com TheWebGal Biz Site: http://www.thewebgal.com/ Heather's Website: http://www.thewebgal.com/hjames/ My Roxy Music Archive: http://www.thewebgal.com/roxymusic/ >------------------------------------------< - -----Original Message----- From: owner-avalon@smoe.org [mailto:owner-avalon@smoe.org]On Behalf Of James James Sent: Friday, March 03, 2000 11:45 AM To: avalon@smoe.org Subject: [AVALON] Avalon FTP site is Up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Enjoy, James ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com - -------------------- To disentangle yourself from these bickering numbnuts, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon - -------------------- To disentangle yourself from these bickering numbnuts, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 3 Mar 2000 15:22:41 -0600 From: "Will Frechette" Subject: Re: [AVALON] RE:Ferry in Paris Your post just triggered an interesting psychological phenomenon, I remembered that I used to live in Paris. It had nothing other to do with your post but it hit me like I hadn't even known it. Hadn't thought about it in so long. My dad was in the service when I was young and I lived there from age 3 - 7. Just outside Paris in Fountain Bleu, reu Rene Canton if I remember correctly, wow 40 years ago. See every now and then the fog lifts. Saw the palace at Versielles and everything. There is a program on Radio 2 on Thursday 9 March at 9 pm on one of Bryan's favourites, BILLIE HOLIDAY. And for anyone else out there like me who's also an Elvis fan there is a radio show on Radio 2 on Wednesday 8 March at 10 pm which is following the route in Chuck Berry's song 'Promised Land'(also covered by Elvis himselvis) and it is going to be in Mississippi - the birthplace of Elvis Presley. Hope this info is interesting to some else out there in Avalon Land. Tracy. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com - -------------------- To disentangle yourself from these bickering numbnuts, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 3 Mar 2000 15:42:13 -0800 (PST) From: Irene Adler Subject: [AVALON] PLEASE READ- RE: E-MAN, ISP'S AND FERRY I was just informed through the grapevine that E-man- because of his infantile and misplaced rage- has called the place of employment where E Gregory worked and reported him for his use of e-mail at work. Because of this Eric was fired and now is looking for employment and an ugly face to distort and crush ( ie. E-man). Just to warn all of you out there- he complains when you don't use a "Real" ISP, only because he wants to report people that do not worship his thinning hair and ugly features. I am just warning you- DO NOT USE A REAL NAME OR AN ISP OR YOU MAY BE REPORTED TOO. This is not a joke and personally makes me sick to my stomach. I guess you have to censor your posts or Heather the "webgal" and E-man will have you removed. Sincerely, IRENIE __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Sorry for any confusion. I was going to type "ftp://" at the beginning of the IP address, but I assumed people knew that. Apologies to any newbies on the list. Also, I have a Mac at home and Windows at work. Here on my Mac I use a program called Fetch 3.0.3 which works great. At work I use Explorer. The Mac version of Explorer is not as up-to-snuff as the Windows version. There's no "Login" under the File menu to put in the login and password. I'm afraid I have no knowledge of Netscape's setup for ftp. My advice is once your logged in, save the password and bookmark the site. It will automatically take you there without any hassles.
