This was my third concert of this tour and again it was exciting. Compared to the other two the crowd in Amsterdam was the most enthusiastic. A standing ovation when he came on stage. And a few times the crowd went mad. Especially after the solo of OOTB. Bryan was very relaxed he took more time to introduce the numbers. At the end of the show I rushed to the stage to party and at that moment Lucy Wilkinson looked at me and it seems she recognised me from the RFH were we had met her with some other Avalonions. I told my brother who was with me that it looked like she remembered me and he advised me to consult a doctor for my Ferry fever. But after the show she saw me again, and she said: there you are, I saw you in the audience. She made my day! After and before the show we had our Avalonion party. ( I did my Ferry imitations and Gerrit couldn't get enough of it). We met Bryan, took some pictures, he signed the Horst photo that I've used for ASSH1. He was very friendly and relaxed. Andy gave him the inlay for he Bostonboot to sign and he took a second look at the cover! After the signingsession we went again to a bar. We had the normal Avalonion discussion about favourite numbers, lyrics etc. When we had to choose the song for our funeral we finally decide to make it a five days funeral to play all the albums and the bootlegs. After closingtime we drove to Antoon's house to look at some part of the concert he filmed and our meeting with Bryan. And that's the end of the story. Friday I felt eight miles high but after reading the reviews in the Dutchpapers today, I'm back on earth. Can't remember to read reviews of a Ferry/Roxy concert that were so negative. Unbelievable, it's hard to imagine that I went to the same concert as those journalists. Really hurts when you read such a bad reviews. The set has chanced a bit. Four intro numbers instead of three and Bryan left the stage two times for a intermezzo by the band. Six numbers without Bryan, in my opinion that's too much. He didn't played 'as time goes by, can't get started and streetlife. Maybe it's because he has been sick that his part of the concert has been brought back. Fact is that he told journalists that a part of the tour almost was cancelled. Presumably anyone applying by post now has every bit as good a chance of tickets as someone who applied when Robert's first posting went out. The capacity is likely to be pretty big so the likelihood of anyone being disappointed at such an early stage is slim. But I will be at the Duesseldorf show next Thursday, of course. I'm already counting the days, hours, minutes... One of the Ferriest moments in my vacation occurred when I was watching an amazing sunset on a little island off the gulf coast of Florida, and suddenly in the open-air bar behind me Natalie Merchant's version of More Than This was being played. It was quite romantic, though of course the original would have been so much better. My personal music selection for the trip consisted of a tape called Bryan's Favourites: songs he chose over the years in interviews and radio shows as his...well, favourite songs. And repeated listening under subtropical sun really made me get into some of the tracks I wasn't so fond of in the beginning - e.g. Leadbelly's Goodnight Irene or George McCrae's Rock Your Baby. I bought two CDs while I was in the US (CDs are so cheap over there, it's unbelievable... Ever bought them in Germany, or, even worse, in the UK?!): Beck's Midnite Vultures and the Macy Gray one - both recently recommended to me by a certain gentleman. Of course, they're both excellent. By the way, every time I passed a K-Mart in the US, I was reminded of a comment Bryan made in a '93 Q article (I think...), where he was gushing about buying most of his clothes (he did mention white socks in tubes) really cheap: "It's cool. K-Mart is my tailor." Since I've returned home I'm frantically trying not to miss any Bryan TV appearances/interviews in Germany, but I know of at least two I have definitely missed; one a week ago on Saturday 12 (Brisant/ARD?), and one just yesterday, on Friday evening (no idea on which channel). Does anybody know some details? The newspaper concert reviews I have found for Bryan's recent German shows were all very positive, and some have nice photos as well.
