I bought it but I don't think the date is matching because Manifesto is already on it. Can one of our "grey eminencies" or Walking Encyclopedia's tell me if this could be an official CD or if it is not, how I caould find this in an official shop? The sound quality is very good! Then what Tour was that? Manifesto Tour? Was it worldwide, did it come to Europe and Belgium? Who were the accompagnying musicians? Can someone give me a list of all the Roxy/Ferry tours in Europe and the world (with their name)? I did use a spell checker, but it did not recognize Roxy, so I doubt its quality :). Anyway, as a "non native Anglo speaker" I can assure you that I will make mistakes, for which I apologize. On topic: I saw man and band yesterday here in Amsterdam and was as impressed as ever. I had some concerns in advance. Not about the performance itself ('course not), but about the audience. The concert was scheduled as part of a so called vocal festival, consisting mainly of classical vocal performances, with stars like Thomas Hampson and Barbara Bonney. So I was afraid that some of the audience might not be able to relate to what was happening on stage and would spoil the atmosphere. Fortunately my concerns were completely unnecessary and everybody had a 'really good time'. It was good to notice that many people were familiar with, and appreciated, the ATGB songs. Still the old Roxies (Out of the Blue!) caused the biggest excitement. I am curious to hear from others who were there and who have attended other concerts of this tour how the event compared to those. - -Jan Cees - -----Original Message----- From: ecwoods@mindspring.com [mailto:ecwoods@mindspring.com] Sent: Wednesday, February 16, 2000 12:35 AM To: avalon@smoe.org Subject: Re: [AVALON] RE : Lyrics - and THE Roxy moment Welcome, Jan Cees! Anyway, back to Ferry. One thing I like about him is reflected in the lyric I quoted. He seems to understand women. He refers to "womens" problems and they ways that we think in a lot of his songs and in ways that other male singers wouldn't dare come close to. Like that line, "One thing we share is an ideal of beauty." I don't think many other men would admit to "sharing" an ideal of beauty with the woman of their affections, they might see her as an object of beauty, but it's not the same thing. It's Ferry's empathy that makes the difference. Seen it all. It was wonderful. 4 Avalonians (Han, Andy, Gerrit and me) got together before the show, at least one more in the crowd (Frank). Completely mesmerized by his performance last night. 21:00 sharp, the show begins. Julia Thornton harp solo is immediately enchanting. Then the band begins with one more extra intro, as compared to the Antwerp gig. Zev Katz plucks his bass as if it is his mother in law... Then Nightfall sets in... Lovely! Never ever change. Keep that breathless charm and the nighttime was our time for just reminiscing. Our eyes got fogged by a wonderful cance meeting. The whole set in a green glow with Carrickfergus, Casanova! The whole thing. The stars shone bright in the grand finale We meet Patricia, 20 years of lonely fanship behind her, Bryan accepted her rose though!. She would love to join Avalon and completely drowns in our Bry-stories. Afterwards we meet Lucy Wilkins, sipping at a giant Wodka with some Orange. She recognises Han immediately, "the wicked guy from Holland", cause they've chatted seemingly endlessly in London, last December... Rumour has it that he impressed her a lot with his Bryan Ferry and Mick Jagger impersonations. She startles a bit of the camera, but nevertheless I catch a most charming smile, we get autographs and I carry her viola for a while... The weird thing about this concert is that you see people in their thirties, forties and fifties; and almost all behave as if they were at least twenty years young. Magic! Then it is off to the back, at the Artiesteningang. A bunch of people is waiting. The word goes that two by two we may come in!!! It will take another 20 to 30 minutes or so, but then indeed, it's true! In an extremly friendly way he poses with everyone for a photograph, shakes a hand, puts his arms around your shoulder, has a word with you. Patricia has a wonderful photograph with a silver marker pen: "to Patricia" he writes! She is over the moon!!! "Bryan don't you ever stop making music" she says when he enters the Tour Bus, he turns around and smiles his placid smile. What a wonderful last sight. He hasn't stopped by a long way... 15 hours of touring to Graz that night. But they may sleep in the Bus.
