The whole theme of that video seemed very sexual. I've heard that "Mamouma" means "horse" in Greek, and there are associations between horses and sexuality (if anyone saw the film "Equus," etc). Don't take this the wrong way Martin, but was the video deliberately distorted a bit? It seemed deliberate, given the setting of the opium den, to make it a bit fuzzy and dim. I had never actually seen an interview with Bryan before, never even heard his voice before unless he was singing. This is going to sound very shallow and please forgive me for what I am about to say. With the exception of what's on the greatest hits albums, I have never taken much interest in any of Roxy/BF before Flesh and Blood. What an idiot! When I watched RM perform Mother of Pearl and Amazonia on the APS video I realized that I had been shortchanging myself by not listening to these cd's (I have most of them) Is Mother of Pearl on Country life? I don't have that one. What a great song MOP is! I seem to remember that song from way back in my early teen years. I am revisiting all the earlier cd's right now as I write. I would love to know more about the meaning of that song - and was the setting meant to be Indian, Moroccan, or just sort of a generally exotic place? >> I love the video too, Heather. Maybe you didn't get it Red.. the movie was indeed crap but the so-called orgy scene was absolutely BRILLIANT. You'd have to see it on the big screen though, amazing use of music as Kubrick's films are also renowned for. On that note, I can finally report my review of Magnolia. This movie goes for so much, I had to give myself a month or so to digest it and detach. In the end my verdict equals my gut reaction; I think this film was 95% drivel. But it does also boast one utterly brilliant scene, which, as those who have seen it know, I can't disclose. OK, I have not seen the "Mamouna" video, but I guess I'm looking forward to it now because I (and the two friends I saw it with) laughed so hard during the "orgy" scene that we were in tears. In fact, it's still what we use as a shortcut to dissolve ourselves into helpless laughter.
