I'm very surprised by this observation Bahi. Your analysis of B&G was, as ever, superb, and you may recall my appreciation of the title track echoed your comments on death : I still think it's a lament to the pit-pony man. ...But for me all this talk of complexity - lyrics, subtext - disguises the fact that this is quite an accessible album. Lovely warm melodies, wonderful performances and succulent vocals. This wasn't a disc that rock academia pored over. Whenever I reached a Sloane Ranger's inner sanctum in those perfumed eighties there was B&G, unsleeved, beside the chardonnay and the discarded cashmere, the string of pearls.... A testiment to what simple pleasures that vinyl contained. A swift ring round the vice dens of ticket touts has secured us Row 12 central (aisle). Phew! Close call. I am now playing Casanova on a loop to excorcise my venom. Martini, can you bring another copy of A Perfumed Sigh when next we meet - it being my prescription for a very depressed Roxy friend. Maybe the next bootleg could be called Better Than Prozac. I had a particularly lousy day yesterday, and that was just the last straw. With no other information to go on and feeling very hurt and confused, I retaliated. There's nothing like looking foolish in front of people you just met. But I'm sorry, too. I know mistakes happen. I wasn't even sure until I checked it three times that you'd sent the mesage and not me. (I'm not a computer expert by any means.) Even though you didn't do this on purpose, I'm going to handle myself a little differently. I want to be above board from now on. I should have just asked Rex what he meant by the oyster comment instead of asking you. So, Rex, the floor's open. What did you mean? Again, my apologies if I hurt anyone's feelings. I really do like all of you. You seem to be a pretty-tough skinned lot. I could do with some of that myself, I guess. I hope we can all just start over. I've got lots more questions and things to say. And lots more to learn. Thank you, David, for admitting you made a mistake. That takes a big person, one who _is _ as classy as Ferry. Apology completely accepted. The two which I most remember are a powder purple 1971 ElDorado and a 1973 Sedan DeVille, which was almost exactly the colour of a cherry lifesaver. Pretty fly for a white guy. When my grandfather passed away my grandmother didn't want to be reminded, and the car was parked at my house until it was sold. In a middle class white suburban northside Atlanta neighbourhood this was the cause of much amusement for my friends... If you want to talk about a truly classic car my father has restored a 1938 Ford convertible, just like the one FDR owned. The car is a work of art. And just so that we can tie this in to Bryan, wasn't one of the songs on ATGB written in 1938? :-) As for the bickering I agree, even though I seem to have unwittingly added to it. They were all good, but some better than others. The High Road was just too bouncy for me, and Mamouna tour was a little too predictable especially towards the end. Hubbard really cut loose on Newtown, while in the '94 tour he seemed less inspired. I liked Jeff Thall's playing, thought that tour had the best line up of backup singers, costumes and staging. While Mamouna may be his best solo work, the songs from B&G and Bete Noir translated into live tunes much better than those from Mamouna. He only did 3 songs from it in '94 unfortunately. I also think 2 guitars are better than 3.
