I'm not certain of the value of this box set. I'll buy it of course but Roxy Musics greatest hits , The Atlantic Years, Street Life, The Ultimate Collection, More than This, TTOIA, and now another set full of old material is just taking the piss. Plus Heart still Beating of course which is presumably the same Frejus concert as The High Road. I do hope there is something substantial that I haven't heard before on it. Judging by his superb performance on The Only Face live he might be better advised to sit down at the piano and just re record songs like Chance Meeting, 2hb, If there is something, just Like you, Mother of Pearl, Sunset, A Really Good time, Stronger through the years, Running Wild, To Turn you on, True to Life, Zamba, Just One Look, Will You Love me Tomorrow, Taxi , Your Painted Smile, Mamouna, Chain Reaction. Even In Your Mind. Using just the piano and not much else. He's good on the piano. A couple of weeks for the lot. No great effort required but we could hear the voice in all it's glory. You can say you like Harry Connick, and if someone makes fun of that, well, maybe someone else may tell the first someone to shut up. That's all. The guideline for Avalon says topics should be about music, anything goes - except if you're really into Eno more than Ferry, then join the Eno group instead (someone can correct me if this is wrong but that's what I read). I don't remember reading that people have to be friendly though, so just watch out for thorns as Han would say. If people want to be racists or bigots (what I think most people would consider to be trash talk) the most I can do is ask 'em to quit, and ask them to elevate things. If a user was dumped from Avalon, it was done by the list owners, and I've got nothing to do with them. I'd even settle for an accompanist - something like the Elvis/Steve Nieve from a couple of years ago. I'd even wait a year or longer for that one, The Maestro needs his rest, after all. The sad fact is that there is nothing in Peenut's messages, nor these attacks on HJ, that relate, equate or assimilate in any way shape or form with any of the qualities of class or sensibilities of style that Roxy Music or Bryan Ferry represent/ed. This is not a Sham 69 fan list, DUH. (For that matter Jimmy Pursey would think Peenut and the voidoids defending Peenut, a waste of time.) Here's your litmus test: You are at a friend's house, lights down low, listening to Avalon, and the neighbor's obnoxious cousin bursts in and starts spouting total profane nonsense. Kinda ruins the mood? Inviting "people" like the doltish dog dropping Peenut, out, is the right thing to do. And if you don't think so, then you are some poseur who really has missed the stylistic mood message of Roxy/Ferry. There are so many other places for "people" like that to go and trash other people on the net. The issue of banning, or censoring people for far less tame behaviour, and democracy and all that is not even related to Peenut's behaviour. For those of you that think Peenut deserved a forum here on this list, or who cannot seperate personalities from standards, then you are what Peenut called me -- when I posted a tame request for not wasting bandwidth. I thank people like HJ for standing up to unwarranted attacks like this, on anyone on the list. It is a sad irony of the Internet that some will find that reason to attack her. Pathetic. I consider this list a sanctuary for Ferry/Roxy fans, and it is at its' best when espousing the style, class and values of the maestro. Anything else is indeed TRASH.
