However, no one on this list would like it. Too industrial, vocals not like Ferry's ect. This opinion is based on the fact that I'm the only one on the list that likes Tin Machine and Reznor's tone is much edgier, darker and closer to hell. Absinthe makes >the heart grow fondle? >I'll take what I can get. >- Herman An "official bootleg" box set would be amazing, but not likely. The thing about bootlegs is that they only appeal to the most hardcore fans and there`s no real money to be made there. Besides, the music industry has gone to great pains to make the mainstream public think the word bootleg means "inferior product" and bootlegs are usually over their heads anyway. I`ve known people to pick up a bootleg because it contains, say, a favorite love song only to hear a bad quality recording with different lyrics and be forever turned off to them. They don`t know or care that it`s a first draft of that song recorded in a gas station bathroom and sung about his mother`s bout with scurvy. It`s gems like this that the hard core fan wants included in box sets and they are more than willing to wade through poor sound/pops/clicks/hiss if need be. However, the 90`s did see a significant number of officially released bootlegs. Off the top of my head, Bowie`s '72 Santa Monica show, a Velvet Underground box-o-boots, 2 from Emerson, Lake and Palmer, Dylan`s infamous '66 Royal Albert Hall show (a MUST have, btw). So maybe the music industry is starting to come around a bit. As much as I love the Fab Four >(always have, always will) I just found the content didn't coherently present how >creative they were. And also the marketing of it really pissed me off with all that "Free >As A Turd" rubbish. Out of six dics, there's only about 2 hours of decent stuff. And to add insult to injury, a Dutch bootlegger by the name of Dieter Shubert (Swingin' Pig Records) paid off a top EMI exec. $20,000 for the best tapes, 8 hours worth, and released the first two 30 min. CDs as "Ultra Rare Trax Vol. 1 & 2". Sounding every bit as good and in some cases better than the EMI release, they contained never before heard alternate takes of "I Saw Her Standing There" "Strawberry Fields Forever" and "Please, Please Me" in perfect stereo. They were also recorded in cronological order (EMI`s were not). But the real shocker was the sound quality and the leaking of these tapes shook EMI to their foundation. There were 6 "Ultra Rare Trax" CDs released in all with one containing the origional demo the Beatles took to Capitol. Ouch! I like Bowie (second only to Ferry) but some list members are left cold by Bowies music. Vapor even said that no one ever had their life changed by a Bowie song. But this track has always had an atmosphere and emotion about it that is missing from a lot of Bowies other songs - and with the piano could be done really well by Ferry. Listening to "The Only Face" on tour and on APS I still think several tracks on Mamouna would have been better without the clutter .
