Bryan has written and recorded 6 songs with DS. One of the songs is called Love War. I have an interview with Bryan some where that mentions this. I have also got from several interviews etc with Bryan and other artists that during the sessions from Horoscope/Mamouna and the other unreleased stuff, he has worked with :- Edwin Collins, Bernard Butler, Bjork and some others I can't remember off the top of my head, and some of the 1988 tour band who have never been on his records before ie:- Jeff Thall, Luigio Hopper (thanked on Mamouna). Has anyone picked up on any other musicians working with him???? I love Tin Machine's remake of "If There Is Something". Both versions, one live from "Live Oy Vey, Baby" and the studio version from "Tin Machine II". Also, Johnette Napolitano covered "End Of The Line" when she was in "Concrete Blonde" on the CD "Mexican Moon". It was a great version, she obviously grew up on Roxy Music/Bryan Ferry. She also covered "Mother of Pearl" on the CD "Pretty and Twisted" which was a side project with the Wall of Voodoo Marc Moreland?. Also, a killer version. Thanks for listening... Bye, Rod NP. Actually, one glam rocker covering another glam rocker is not that much of a stretch. I would think something like the Nine Inch Nails covering a Roxy song would better qualify as 'bizarre'. I'm a big fan of Bowie, but not that era. My favorite cover of Roxy was Concrete Blonde's version of "End of the Line". I think PT played drums on it, whoever their singer is, she has a great voice. I am willing to bet we get a package very similar to TTOIA. A few songs from each release, and a disc of rarities - A greatest hits, and some nuggets. Didn't Byran put TTOIA together? >At the end of the day if most of the Ferry > b-sides do get on this box set then we could well find ourselves paying out > £50 for about half a dozen songs and therefore getting ripped off yet again. Such is the case with most of the box sets, at least in the ears of a collector, as many Avalonians are. I would rather see a set of 'rarities' only - B sides, single only releases, soundtrack contributions, unreleased songs -all remastered, of course. At least I would have all those songs in one place. The best Bryan could do for us would be an 'official bootleg' -Hey, someone send him ASSH as a model! Or how about something like Townshend's Scoop1 & 2 albums? I often wonder: If a song wasn't 'good enough' at the time of a regular release, why is it good enough for a box set? Nostalgia? Absinthe makes the heart grow fondle? I'll take what I can get. - Herman - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 9 Feb 2000 01:44:32 -0500 From: "eRacerX" Subject: Re: [AVALON] Strong Enough mark shanahan said: > btw, i can't see bowie covering anything roxy -- bowie/tin machine - > whatever. too bizarre to even comtemplate; i don't think i need to hear > their version of 'if there is something' ... in fact, i'm quite sure! I had read many years ago about a Bowie version of Ladytron, supposedly during the Hunky Dory period - anyone have any info? I have never seen it or heard anyother mention of it..probably my imagination. Hi; Having been offline more often than not in recent times, I don't know if this has been mentioned or not, but Mudhoney just put out a 2 disc best of/rarities set for the price of one disc, with their punky, fuzztone garage band version of "Editions of You" closing disc 2. Probably won't be universally adored by one and all in Avalonia, but I like it OK. Put it in context with the other bands they cover on the rarities disc (Black Flag, Suicide, the Damned, Motorhead, Elvis Costello & the Attractions, etc.) to get an idea of where thet are coming from. Probably NOT for everyone, though. As to the Siouxsee set, "TTLG" is one of my favorite "covers" albums. (Sometimes a "covers" album can be a real mixed bag.) Another one that I like a lot is the Church's "Box of Birds" from last year, even though the promised covers of "In Every Dreamhome, A Heartache" and the Velvets' "Venus In Furs" (among others) apparently never made it past the planning stages. It DOES include fine versions of Iggy's "Endless Sea", Television's "Friction", Alex Harvey's "Faith Healer", Kevin Ayer's "Decadence", Ultravox' "Hiroshima Mon Amour", and Mott's/Bowie's "All the Young Dudes", among others. Be well.
