They are currently preparing the artwork which will be a tribute to the first 4 Roxy albums involving a photo shoot of models in the Roxy style, with detailed liner notes. Volume 1 (out in March) will cover the Eno years, volume 2 (to be relased a couple of months later) will be the Jobson era. And it'll be a full audio/visual experience, being DVD as well. I asked about Roxy's BBC Sessions, and they prepared all the master tapes for release about 5 years ago, but David Enthoven decided that he would oversee the project through Virgin and blocked their release....That obviously never happened, but things have changed now. NMC are hoping that this Musikladen release will pave the way to the BBC sessions finally seeing the light of day. Definitely something to look forward too. The Velvet's version of Sweet Jane was always a little tame, must have been the lack of John Cale. >>> "Ujvary, Richard A." 02/08 3:11 pm >>> And speaking of Mott & co I liked their version of Sweet Jane better than Lou's with the Velvets. I just thought it all came together, music/lyrics, with the tempo up a bit. Sort of feel the same with Ferry's covers on some songs..sometimes I want him to sing more punchy.... Hendrix for me did the same with Dylan's Watchtower...a great cover.... Just wondered if it was worth monitoring. I guess it's not as popular as this list, although most the messages that were posted there seemed to have some useful or relevant information. I was thinking the exact same thing on Saturday whilst looking through the various Box Sets in Virgin. The Velvets box set is perfect, keeping just about everyone happy. But there seems to be this idea that just because the Roxy package was a 4cd collection that the Ferry one should follow suit. The difference is that all the Roxy rarities fitted on one disc. I'm sure all the Ferry rarities could almost fit on four discs. And I wonder if four cd's of rarities would sell better than yet another rehash of old material + some unreleased material? At the end of the day if most of the Ferry b-sides do get on this box set then we could well find ourselves paying out £50 for about half a dozen songs and therefore getting ripped off yet again. This is a chance that shouldn't be missed. I guess asking to release a box set entirely composed of rarities isn't realistic but stick out an 8cd box set (as has been done many times before) and I'd be quite willing to pay the extra £40. This material is going to be released sometime - why not now? Hope somebody in the know is listening. Regards, Gareth. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 8 Feb 2000 22:56:35 +0100 From: Kicki Gustafsson Subject: [AVALON] Updated! http://www.avalon.pp.se is updated again - if you go to the memberssection and find Swedish member Alexander Papazoglu, you'll find a nice picture of Bryan together with Alex and his father. /Kicki G - ------------------------ Kicki Gustafsson, Östersunds-Posten 063-16 16 51 http://www.op.se http://www.torget.se/users/k/KickiG (privat hemsida) - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 08 Feb 2000 14:01:03 PST From: "gareth mc ginley" Subject: Re: [AVALON] Kum To Monkee's PartiIEeeeEEEUUU >From: KB Porter >Dear MonquiBoy: > >I've said it before, "is there no end to your talent?" Do we have any? Could we ask him if we could suggest a title by sending suggestions to his web site. If we had to call it after a Ferry solo song title like the Roxy box set did what would sum up the music the way 'The Trill Of It All' did. 'Sensation' ?????? The box set could be a 4 CD set like TTOIL with a 4th CD containing non album tracks. This way the standard of the box set would be high. Any unreleased rarities that would be interesting to us, but not to less avid fans, could be put on a 5th & 6th CD that was available by sending a token that is only available inside the box set with an additional £12-£15 to Virgin or whoever. This way it would guarantee the quality of the box set which would help reveiws and sales and the rarities would still be available to those who really want them. I know this would mean we would be buying some stuff over again and would be a bit costly, but this is a compromise between what the record company want, (sales) and what the fans want (loads of unreleased stuff). Another idea if it's only a 4 CD box set with disc 4 being rarities is maybe we can ask Bryan to let us choose the rarities track listing. he could post on his list what is available for disc#4 with the track times. We could vote through his website for 74 minutes worth just like Manzaneras Roxy song vote. Bowie did something similar for his Sound + Vision tour in 1990 These are the best ideas on this site so far since Ferry asked as they are the only ones, so lets make suggestions to each other here then we could discuss the most popular ones and then put them forward to the man who said " any ideas" on January 28th 2000 J.O'B. - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 8 Feb 2000 23:19:55 +0100 From: Kicki Gustafsson Subject: Re: [AVALON] Re: Ferry Box IDEAS >when Bryan mentioned the box sey on his web chat, he asked Any Ideas????? > >Do we have any?
