Great work folks. Remember these are home tapes that were transferred on to a master tape and transferred again on to our own copies. Although a bit sceptical after viewing Kiss & Tell, overall the whole thing turned out really well. And the cover and editing is very professional. My own personal favourite has to be Ferry at the piano singing The Only Face - - it just seems completely apt when he's performing it in dead silence in a room by himself. Anyway I thought the addition of the trumpet player at the end of this song during the tour was a mistake - very pretentious for a start. Surely Andy Mackay is wearing his flashiest ever Roxy uniform on 1972's Ladytron, showing that with regards to visual splendour he was a rival to even Ferry in those early days. Sensation from Live Aid is excellent too with Newmark going crazy in the background trying to get the drum repair man. Ferry's on top form , jumping about the place like a lunatic and singing in a somewhat agitated tone - you'd almost swear he was coc-ed up! Btw , is this the largest audience Ferry's ever played in front off? (Wembly holds around 80,000). And what can you say about Hotal Buque except hillll..arious. Isn't Ferry doing a take on 007 when he announces himself to the hotel owner? "Ferry, Bryan Ferry" he says as he takes off his shades. J.O'B did say on our trip to snowy Newcastle that about half a dozen of the promo videos have been vetoed and I suppose you can see why - is it any wonder that Jerry Hall left Ferry going by that Sign Of The Times video. Another amazing fact from our Scottish encyclopedia was that a Ferry puppet, complete with dollops of Brylcream, once appeared on Spitting Image. This was circa The Ultimate Collection i.e when Ferry seemed to be doing nothing but releasing his back catalogue. Apparently his manager is saying "Bryan, you must get a record out" and he's replying "But why, we can just re, re, re...". Sounds hilarious - anybody got this on tape. Definitely an essential for APS2. For APS2, we're gonna aim to go straight from VHS->digiBeta->VHS which cuts out the VHS->VHS->Beta->VHS->digitBeta->VHS degredation. I think we can do something incredible if everyone can help source the best quality originals possible. Not permanently, I hope. I wish he'd do more one-off singles like this - songs that don't have to fit into an album, and are just glorious in themselves. The 7 minute version really is to die for. And when the Tube* aired the video, it included a few extra seconds of sound at the beginning. Does anyone know which version is on the US Legend soundtrack? B *Ferry fan and Squeeze man Jools Holland was its main presenter. He appeared live one afternoon on a dedicated children's TV slot to urge all tuned-in tots to watch that evening's programme. In full Tube mode, he finished his appeal by addressing his proud and delighted young viewers as "groovy little f*ckers" and causing an instant meltdown of Channel 4's and ITV's switchboards. Despite a later apology, the next six shows were unfortunately Jools-free and unbearably Yates-heavy. - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 5 Feb 2000 17:03:26 +0800 From: Kicki Gustafsson Subject: [AVALON] Yes, it was great! Just back from Stockholm - yesterday's concert with Bryan Ferry was of course wonderful. I will do a full review later, but I just had to tell you that: 1) Everyone in the audience was on their feet, dancing och singing like crazy during Let's Stick Together 2) I almost started sobbing out loud during Chance Meeting, it was that beautiful and strong. Lots of tears in my eyes. 3) Street Life was really sharp! 4) Casanova was fabulously bitter 5) We (Avalonians Kicki, Alex P and Tom W with a friend, a wife and a father!) met Ferry afterwards when he was signing autographs and posing for photographs. I'm hoping for a really nice picture of The Webmistress and The Maestro, which I of course will put on my site :-) /Kicki G - happy, tired, smiling - --------------------------- Kicki Gustafsson http://www.torget.se/users/k/KickiG (personal homepage) http://www.avalon.pp.se (my Roxy Music/Bryan Ferry-site) - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 5 Feb 2000 11:27:04 EST From: AMeyersLD@aol.com Subject: [AVALON] ASSH 1&2 Hey All! Just recieved my copies of ASSH yesterday, and they are wonderful. A thank you to those who produced them, and to Heather the Webgal for sending them. My five year old daughter is completly smitten with our man, and has been dancing to the various recordings of "Lets stick together" nonstop. It's quite a novelty to actually live with someone who likes Bryan Ferry; mywife and son and parents and ex-roomates disliked or actually hated him. One question though: I'll bet this was discussed before I was on the list, but what is the story of the folk songs at the meltdown festival? What is the meltdown festival? I have always suspected Bryan of having a secret folky side....maybe there is an album of Steeleye Span like material down the road.... Questions: 1) Anyway, my question is this. Are any of the video's in stereo? Are some in stereo and some in mono? 2) Also, does someone have the length of time of each individual video or the time at which each one starts on the video? That would be helpful to fast foward to favorite portions of the video.
