Even the excellent BSB While I'm rather cool to a large part of the post _Boys and Girls_ stuff, with a few exceptions, I'm not sure it's really fair to dismiss them as not different enough. Most of his output since and including "Manifesto" has really been mostly the same. In many ways _Boys and Girls_ is just a more abstract retread of _Avalon_, which has become more and more abstract, leading us to, uh, _As Time Goes By_. Which is much too depressing a train of thought for me to pursue at the moment in my present giddy state. Which is also to say that I think that the solo albums during the Roxy years were in some ways a means to work out certain ideas a bit further without the confines of "Roxy Music." Personally, I'd take _In Your Mind_ in a heartbeat over his last 4 releases. > So I,m not sure we should be so cool about ATGB, this is Ferry at his solo > best and a quite magnificent album for someone in the later stages of his > career. The gold disc is a minor triumph as his commercial career had been Now you make him seem like he's all washed up or something when you add a qualifier like "for someone in the later stages of his career." And we know that that sort of opinion is not allowed here, right? ITYF the dust breeding photos by Man Ray were actually showing the 'sieves', where Duchamp allowed dust from his apartment to settle on a section of the glass before fixing it with varnish. This would have been before the piece was broken. Anyone in the Philadelphia area can see the original in the art museum. Brits can make do with the replica constructed by Richard Hamilton, which sometimes is exhibited in the Tate Gallery. k - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 24 Jan 2000 18:18:04 -0800 From: "Chan" Subject: [AVALON] Bryan Ferry Strictly Confidential CD Hi Bruce, I just wanted to tell you that I got CD today and I will be sending the money out to you tomorrow. I think it's now time to reform Roxy and get on with it. I mean come on... give me break, I can't believe Bryan's trying to revive his career with remakes. I don't care how good they sound. What's the point. If ATGB is commercially successful should he do a 40's remake and then a 50's and then an Elvis album. Please be kind I think I've had too much wine... Anyways, I think he should get in the studio with Manzanera and Eno with a definite timeline in mind and then just put the darn thing out. Don't over polish it. I hate for his last album to be a bunch of remakes. Think of the first four Roxy albums...I bet everyone has a song on there that's brought them to tears... Bye, Rod(too much wine) Ok, so I've poured the gasoline all over myself but who'll lite the match.
