I don't hear any Dylan at all. well, gee, i definitely hear it. that's not to say he sounds A LOT like dylan. what i hear is a fairly subtle dylan influence in the delivery, *very much* processed in the 'traditional ferryesque manner'. we're talking a roots/derivative kind-of-thing. not, for example, say sinatra when he was just starting out (who sounded _just like_ bing crosby, to my mind ...). it's not overt. but, anyway, this amounts to: my opinion. i mean, we are talking about someone who was heavily influenced by american music/film/culture. and i know dylan *was* a heavy-duty influence, so ... OK, i give - i'm out of my mind. and, as i said, a neuron or even two may have gone awry as well! :^) ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Jan 2000 15:01:27 EST From: ASchulberg@aol.com Subject: Re: [AVALON] prodigal avalonian returns In a message dated 01/19/2000 2:56:32 PM Eastern Standard Time, asbuch@midway.uchicago.edu writes: << Wow, where did you get a "misheard lyrics" desk calendar? Howdy Avalonians! Most of the time I am a happy lurker but I just gotta talk to someone about this! I noticed something way wierd on the back of the sleeve for the Bryan Ferry + Roxy Music Video Collection which, according to the fine print, was copyrighted by Virgin in 1995. I have teh only version I have ever seen of this collection (Printed in USA). Well - who is the guy in the photo? There is no way the cowboy in that photo is Bryan Ferry! Or anybody in Roxy, ever! I swear to God it's Dwight Yoakam or some country-cowboy-hatted business major from UCLA! Anybody have an oft-repeated anecdote or explanation I maybe missed on this fine list? I sure as shootin don't remember Mr. Ferry's Best regards -- Julie Long - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Jan 2000 23:42:52 EST From: JRUTHL123@aol.com Subject: [AVALON] Re: Great Big Photo Gaffe?
