Nevertheless, two things bear keeping in mind. One, this is precisely the kind of response one could imagine--fecund imagination or not--receiving after being so daring as to demand an accounting of his present whereabouts and/or activities from Our Particular Enigma, no? Two, as the message under scrutiny is another in a series of private emails posted to this public forum (an endemic problem apparently becoming, alas, epidemic), I recommend that one should proceed with great caution before assigning designations of "vile" or "misinform[ation]" to what--please God--may merely be a wry attempt at humor intended for an audience of one. After the hassle about getting there it was a truly excellent night. As I said I've never seen either Bry or Roxy before (its not my fault I was born too late) and wasn't sure how the songs on my CD player would compare to the real thing. God, even the thrirties stuff which I wasn't so keen on was great. 'Where or When' was a cracker and I especially enjoyed 'smoke gets in your eyes'. This was largely aided by the band assembled. The sax players were really good, and infact the whole band were great, especially the string quartet who were, erm, visually pleasing as well. Mid way through, Bry had a 5 minute break and the band played on their own. This was fantastic, a jazz/swing number which was clearly appreciated by all juding from the crowds reaction. Of the Roxy classics, 'out of the blue' was a surprise for me. The violin solo (Lucy Wilkins ?) could have been EJ, and I was most pleased with Jealous Guy. Not one of my favourites before (I have to say I prefer the original), even the 'whistling' which I have cringed at in the past was great. I thought Bryan's voice was superb all the way. The charge to the front for the final numbers made things even better. Maybe it was because I was in a space of my own as others avoided me owing to me flaialing my arms about (I call it dancing), but I will contest with anyone that Bry sang the final verse of 'As Time Goes By' to me! Lets Stick Together really got everyone going mad, and Bry's harmonica solo was especially cool. The finale of 'Do The Strand' was incredible, everybody appeared to be having a great time especially Bryan and the band, with Bry running along the front of the stage slapping everyone's hands! However I nearly disgraced myself because of my over-excitement at starting to clap in the break of 'Street Life', but I only let one clap go before regaining composure and I don't think anybody noticed! A great night, the only thing better would have been to have the rest of the boys up there with him. One is an interview, one is a rarities analysis. He mentions MOP rerecorded - and used -on a soundtrack for a movie. Many other good snippets. Sorry if these articles are old news, but I can't remember seeing mention before. I will scan them with OCR and see if it works...Kicki, would you post them on your site? I don't know what the copyright situation would be. (100,000 copies sold). Maybe there's more copies under the "trees" which will drive sales even higher. Speaking of X-Mas trees, since Bryan's so keen on pop standards I wonder if he's ever considered doing a Christmas album. Not only will Phil be playing with Bryan Ferry at Greenwich on New Year's Eve, they will be joined on stage by guitarist Neil Hubbard who featured on the last ever Roxy tour back in 1983. Amongst other songs to be performed Phil and Neil will be playing 'Jealous Guy' and 'Love is the Drug'. (I've ordered 40 UK/Euro style and 40 US style from Jason Gibbs' elves. Other formats can be made up.) Recent subscr*bers unaware of this project should know that about a year ago we asked Avalonions to mail their recordings of TV appearances of Roxy and Bryan to me ; we have tried to use only material not previously shown on the 5 official RM/BF videos. It is essentially a scrapbook of 33 items, either performances, interviews or rare promos, although we have included one celebrated piece that could loosely be described as drama. The quality is variable - transfering video to different formats and back again necessitates a dimunition in picture clarity - yet I believe "A Perfumed Sigh" is still a more thrilling and comprehensive collection than "Total Recall." It should be stressed that this is only available to our community and is not a profit-making project. Here's how we'll do it : 1. Mail me direct with the Subject title : "APS : Order" 2. Give me your Name and Postal address including Postcode/Zip (and country.) 3. I'll email reply acknowledging your order and giving you my address for payment and methods of payment. 4. Cost. £8 Europe. $15 Non-Europe. 5. Don't bother sending a pre-stamped envelope or anything like that . 6. If you were one of the kind lenders of tapes please put on your email exactly what you sent me and I'll return them with a FREE copy of APS. Hope that covers everything and I hope you find the long wait worthwhile. Martino PS I'll repeat this message one or two times over the next fortnight in case people miss it. - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ End of avalon-digest V4 #429 **************************** ======================================================================== For further info, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: info avalon-digest
