Hi Betsy You probably saw Jason's post saying that he's polished this rough diamond into someting rare and beautiful. I'm as keen as you are to see this final version and I understand the first batch of VHS copies are on their way to me for local distribution. His company has the technology to convert to US and other non-VHS formats so I'll have to speak to him about when we can feasibly produce them. We are all keen to get the collection out to every Avalonion who wants it but I'm sure you'll appreciate that this project has more logistical complications than, say, merely burning a set of CD-Rs. Kicki has designed a lovely jacket and that has to be coordinated too. It does seem unfair that UK Avalonions are likely to get a sneak at this thing ahead of the rest, and, as you know our intention was to have a global release date - God that sounds pretentious !- but it just hasn't happened that way. The CD Strictly Confidential is not my responsibility. Is it not Han who knows what's going on there ? I read something about "area captains" for these things which, for some reason, makes me smile. I'll get another post out before Christmas explaining where and when. Thanks for the enthusiasm. In my defence, allow me to mention that residents of the Blair Islands were privy to the following coded clues in Robert Fedder's carefully crafted message: Ford Sierra, J.D.Wetherspoons, long aerial, Croydon, Call-a-Cab, two resprays, pub, "shove", and "mate". Robert's choices are complete giveaways in the Land of Uk but seemingly meaningless outside it. Beautifully done, Robert (mate). Two comments about Paul Thompson in the Army: 1) Not to be insensitive to those over 25 (like myself) on the list, but, isn't he a bit, um, old for active service? 2) What do his comrades at arms make of the picture of PT in the gatefold of the first Roxy album? Not a very military demeanor there.... Just a thought. Flame shields up. A cute story: I just came from an event with both of my parents and both of my step parents. As cocktails were served I plyed ATGB for them. They are all in their 60's and 70's, and loved it, until my mother asked who was it singing? Jaws dropped when I said that it was the dreaded Mr Ferry. Now, during my adolescence (can it really be twenty years ago?) there were few singers my parents HATED more than Bryan Ferry. Yeah, they hated Neil Young and Johnny Rotten and the Magarrigle Sisters*. (For some inexplicable reason though, they liked David Byrne and George Clinton....)But They really hated Roxy and the Maestro. So, after the shock of ATGB wore off they began reminiscing over their second cocktails about which songs they hated most. (I can hardly wait til my kids reach the music-obsessive age....) Both my mother and father said that the song at the top of their -hit list was "that one about Claude Rains." Surely you mean the one about Humphrey Bogart? "No, Claude Rains." What did it sound like? "Cheesy Vegasy sort of thing...I remember him chanting Claude, Claude, Claude Rains in the chorus..." Well, gentle reader, it took me about an hour to work out that it was the first cut of "These Foolish Things," that raised their wrath. After they left, I went out to rent "The Invisible Man" in his honour. Sweet Dreams Andrew In Evanston. *Neil and The Magarrigles are all Canadian AND sing sharp. I wonder if that had something to do with it? - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 18 Dec 1999 23:19:59 -0500 From: "Heather James" Subject: RE: [AVALON] Avalon Logistics Jason Greshes!
