He was a plump and poorly complexioned 14 year old. No indication of the glory of "Everything She Wants" to come. Martini I was working in an advertising agency in the early eighties and had a phone call put through to me from our lass on the switchboard from someone wanting to "get into ads". He said he'd seen Pete Murphy on the Maxell Tapes ad and thought he could have done better. I did advise him that usually a production company would approach him, not the other way round and to get an agent and a set of shots together to send to the industry Bible called "Spotlight". He turned out to be the very undiscovered George Michael (who subsequently went out with our switchboard girl - so obviously still in the experimental stage!) And, unfortunately, I now work for the agency that produced the Bryan Startrite shoe ad (which I think is appalling and a blatant "doing it for the cash scenario" - well if doing crap to fund genius was good enough for Orson welles etc.) Jocelyn - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 13 Dec 1999 11:08:34 +0000 From: "Simon Galloway" Subject: Re: [AVALON] Out Of The Blue STREET LIFE OH MY GOD. This is my absolute favorite song OF ALL TIME and always has been (well, there was a week in 1978 when it was the Wombles with Tobermory's Magic Music Machine). I just hope he plays that tomorrow at RFH. I knew I should have gone to Sheffield (it's my hometown). And after Golders Green I thought that Out Of The Blue would sound good with that band, as would Can't Let Go. And what about ReMake ReModel - the solo parts at the end would be great for a jazz based band. As for BBC Radio 2, I'm sorry that they didn't webcast the concert. I put it straight to cd but had some intereference (next door's computer I think), so if anyone got a crystal clear and digital copy....you know the rest. And as for the omissions, well, that's just criminal. Bitter Sweet, Casanova, Sunset and Carrickfergus were THE highlights (along with the clever reworking of Avalon). How predictably the scissors cut!!! And as for that stupid DJ intro....I shan't comment except for the fact that I pay my license fee each year. Huh. On my home page I have some biographies from his "Roxy Webbook" that was on his Home Page. His main goal was doing a discography. His discography has been on for several years (?'95-'97?), these were the early days of the Web, so I guess he must have (had) quite a lot of e-contacts. As stated on the pages of his Webbook I should have had his written consent to publish any of his material. But since Johannes' e-mail, an his former Home Page are no longer valid, I have not succeeded in doing this. I dare to put it up because I think it now still has the same status and intention as then. And of course it is for personal en non-commercial use only. And it doesn't contain his main goal: the discography. [I personally am not much into discographies, I loose count of the many versions of the same recording. Though different recordings of the same number are interesting. (re-mastering is yet another matter...) Perhaps someone can give an overview of the different discographies that are on the Web now?] So Johannes, if your reading this: can I leave it up? The fact of coming out with ATGB which is really a relic of the musical past in our great new musical age of hip hop, synth, techno, dance and world says reminds me of Sinatra in that he likes to do things his way and he knows what he's good at.
