When you come out of the main station exit you will see St. Georges Hotel ahead of you / slightly to your left. The road to the right of the hotel will take you down to the theatre and a couple of big new bars - there's a Yates' Wine Lodge and a 'Rat and Parrot' - both big, brash and new - nice but not my first choice. However they're very convenient. If I can get there before the show I will, otherwise I'll be loitering around outside around 7 o'clock. As for a drink afterwards - what does everyone prefer - pubs like the one mentioned or more traditional pubs? There's plenty of late bars in Liverpool although I probably won't be staying out too late this time - I can make up for it in London and Newcastle! Here it is now, for what it's worth! Regards, Richard Tonight has been tremendous and I'm pleased to find a couple of minutes to post something from my hotel. The set at the BBC was pretty much the same (I'm told) as the US gigs with the exception of "Love Is The Drug". Having seen Ferry live for 24 years I can say (from a purely personal perspective) that I've never heard him sing better. The whole performance was faultless - a view I think most present will share. I love this man but I know he has some limitations live but none of them were evident tonight - honestly. At one point, during "Do The Strand" I did find myself asking why I - like so many people - would crave a Roxy reunion because I never heard Roxy perform this well. A moment of weakness I know - I too would dearly love to see a reunion - but this was an amazing evening, capped by a post concert drink with a brilliant crowd of AVALONIANS. A pleasure to meet so many again and to make some new acquaintances.! The RFH gig next Tuesday will be something to reckon with I think. Regards, Richard (Off line until Wednesday 'cos this hotel connection is so expensive!) Sober postscript - Having now read the reviews from the others present, I agree with a lot. I wouldn't single out anything that I felt didn't work - I thoroughly enjoyed the likes of "Jealous Guy" because it was so brilliantly sung (and whistled!) - easily the best performance of this I've ever heard. Like everyone else I'd mention the haunting delivery of "The Only Face" and "Where or When". Never thought I'd hear or see "Sunset" live. One of my favourite tracks because the lyrics are so very poetical. I love the percussion on "Just One Of Those Things" and that translated really well live. Bryan seemed to have a lot of fun through the night but I felt he particularly enjoyed singing that one. One or two people felt that some of the ATGB material live wasn't faithful to the recorded versions - can't say I noticed anything glaringly different but would welcome any thoughts. - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 8 Dec 1999 20:33:17 EST From: ASchulberg@aol.com Subject: Re: [AVALON] BF on tv In a message dated 12/08/1999 10:46:14 AM Eastern Standard Time, NADEGE1702@aol.com writes: << There's a one hour special devoted to our darling man on Muchmoremusic tonight at 9 pm. >> Hope that's The Channel Formerly Known as VH1.
