The Hippodrome seats 750. 250 pairs were won in the competition. Mostly "Upstairs." Downstairs, the lady shamelessly declared, is for BBC staff and, rather more worthily, disabled people. Avalonia and friends appear to account for around 50 tickets - a staggering 10%. There has been no oversubscription. Turn up at 8 and you'll still get a seat. Seating is on a first come first served basis. Seems we are all genuine winners and thanks to Richard's tip-off were in the right place right time to take advantage of the license-payers largesse. We all entered a Radio 2 competition to win tickets. To my knowledge they have not been on sale, are therefore free. People with spare tickets have been helping out other list memebers who didn't win to ensure that everyone gets a fair chance of going. It looks like there could be a few tickets left over, so depending where you are, you could always chance your arm and go up to the venue early to see if anyone can pass one on to you. By the looks of it - pretty much what our USA Avalonians have recently witnessed - though I suspect this was 'scaled down' slightly for the Radio recording. Will be interesting to see what's left in/out of the Radio Show of it next Saturday. On stage for 1hr 40 mins though - pretty much a full set I think. High points for me ? Well, 'The Only Face', and 'Casanova'. Brill to hear both 'Chance Meeting' and 'Bitter Sweet' too, even though the arrangement on the latter was fairly bizarre. So glad a few Roxy choice cuts made it in though. 'Can't Get Started With You' is a wonderful song - hope it makes it on to the Show on Sat. I would imagine the first 3 cuts (Harp/Quartet/Band Instrumentals) may not be featured on the Radio Show, excellent in their own right though they were. The ending ? (last 20 mins) - you can guess. Not so much 'names to faces' but 'drinks to faces and down throats' afterwards, nice to meet all you fellow Avalonians. Particularly looking forward to more serious drinking mixed with much BF/RM discussion next Tuesday, prior to/after RFH. And just in case you wondered why a Scot or two whizzed off home quickly - we were headed for Wembley to nick the turf again. Mary Rose - welcome to the list. No, we weren't 'not talking to you' or anything - it's just that you joined in the midst of pure chaos for many of us - travel arrangements etc to see Bry tonight - and many of us with spare Tickets trying to see if others needed any at the last minute. I do hope everyone that could have made it to the Gig got a ticket in the end - I presume so as the 'Avalonia' contingent was there in force. Anyway, welcome Mary - and your question - what do we discuss ? Well - pretty much a tiny bit of everything - and lots of what is really important to us. Hopefully the upcoming UK leg of the Tour will swell our numbers even more. Will see you lot again next Tuesday, though probably with bleary eyes by the end of the evening. Party time wasting is too much fun. Good though. I will be very busy starting a new job and ending an old one, and working two at one time for a while. I just wanted to let you know that one of my brief joys at the end of the day, with limited time will be to read this list and check in with all your latest thoughts and information. You are all greatly appreciated, and I only wish back in 75 when I was the only Ferry/Roxy/Eno/Bowie fan I knew, that the 'net existed and we all could have connected when were fresh and shiny. It has been tres cool to hang with you all the past few months, especially in advance of the BF tour. I hope you all in the UK had a great time at the BBC concert, I look foward to reading your gloating reports! e. - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 6 Dec 1999 23:18:42 -0500 From: "Pat & Allison" Subject: Re: [AVALON] Boston Boot Requests Hello Bruce,Make that 9 request.Sent word out to Heather but havent heard a response so I guess your the man. - ----- Original Message ----- From: Bruce MacQueen To: Sent: Monday, December 06, 1999 10:07 AM Subject: [AVALON] Boston Boot Requests > Dear All: > > I am in the metro Washingotn, D.C. area and have received 8 requests so > far from all over the U.S. I am happy to fill any and all that I receive > as soon as I receive the source materials. Hello UK List Members Your BBC radio show was just about the same length as our US tour shows. And as you can imagine from the few songs mentioned, almost the same set as well. There were only a few small variations in the play list during the US tour as well as the actual song order. Secondly, I personally loved the different arrangements / assignments for "Chance Meeting" & "Bittersweet". The strings and horns wildly taking over for the synthesizers and then seeing it performed in person with it’s frenzied kinetic pace was pretty damn surreal. But as well as that I should also be counted among those who genuinely likes the new CD and it’s material therein. Seeing this talented band perform these gems live and having Bryan up front on the vocals was a rare event. I am very interested to hear what our UK partners thought of the fashion by which the band was able to shift from songs such as "Easy Living" to "Do the Strand" and do it so commendably. Of course hearing "Lets Stick Together" with that horn section and seeing that inside slam to Jerry Hall from the first few rows was indeed priceless.
