I think we should be told. I take my research extremely seriously. I have been known to conduct field trips that entail little or no sleep. The Kentish Town Police Station Desk Sergeant, although unmoved by my entreaties to join me in that plaintive final refrain from Prairie Rose, would certainly testify that I knew my way around the drinking holes of North London. Indeed when considering a hangover I incline towards the Irish adage "If I'd known I'd be this thirsty in the morning I'd have drunk more last night." Thus I am fearless in my pursuit of a bar worthy of my fellow Avalonions - a finer group of beings I have yet to meet. Golders Green, and its environs, however, presents a particular puzzle for your intrepid explorer. There are plenty of Hagen Das (spelling ?) outlets and one would not go thirsty were one's favoured tipple Kosher Wine. But a good old fashioned boozer....? As the Kinksta pointed out, you really have to go up the hill towards Hampstead - Dick Turpin's old stamping ground - to find ye olde pub worthy of the name. The Old Bull and Bush is alright but it would take Kicki's nordic cross-country skiing - and those fine long legs - to get up there and back in time to catch the first plucks of the harp. No. I'll do some more research but a cursory drive around the concert hall last night didn't auger well. We could just meet in the bar at the Hippodrome? (Incidentally a lovely old building with outstanding acoustics.) How wonderful that so many UK Avalonions won the competition ! In addition to most of the Meltdown gang I'm looking forward to meeting Pete Dewey, Chris Turner, Andrew Langley, Jocelyn Fiske and, of course, Johnny Fulton. (The latter could come in very handy if the Sting Internet Group decide to ambush us at the Bus Depot. ) And of course Johnny Reece will be there. Anyone in town that afternoon should check out his fab record shop , a mere 10 minute mini-cab from the Hippodrome. Viva !
