If you were given the same opportunity as I was, what would you say to Bryan Ferry? Something clever like "Bryan I really like your music" or "Bryan would you sign my shirt?" or how about "Bryan I'm a really big fan it's so cool to meet you". So when I said in one post that we chatted for a while, that's what we did. We chatted about a number of things including music, musicians, motorcycles, children, and so on. I liked Gregory's "spontaneous review" of Bete Noire. Every fan hears things differently. Gregory's two least favorite tracks on Bete Noire are my favorites, New Town and The Right Stuff. I do agree that Bryan should've had a big US hit with either Right Stuff or Kiss and Tell, particularly at the time Bete Noire came out since Patrick Leonard's work with Madonna was really hot right then. That same dance groove PL brings to those two songs is very energetic, it's a wonder they weren't top of the charts. Also, people have been mentioning The Main Thing as one of their least favorites....it's my favorite track on Avalon. I really like BF's dance songs. And speaking of dance music let me throw this out there. I think a great idea would be a BF/later Roxy dance remix project. Blondie's reunion was fueled by the great success of the Blondie Remix Project which really brought their music back to clubs and to a wider audience. I know some people may be offended by the idea of techno/industrial remixes but I think that putting that kind of a twist on some of the best Roxy/BF dance tracks (imagine an update on Love is the Drug, it's be a big club smash!) would be a really interesting thing to hear. A new remix single of Duran Duran's Girls on Film has some really fantastic remixes. Any dj's on our list who'd like to give it a try? The Roxy remix project!! Phil's team have sent a reply back to me telling me they will ask him who plays what. You (Jim) asked me what I thought about the solo in relation to the Neil Hubbard one at the end of "Slave to Love" (which is also rather good). You said (as did those at Manzanera.com) that he uses an ES-335. Well, I think that the More Than This solo is definatly very similar but if anything it has a bigger, fuller, more sustained sound than that on STL. So if he used a 335 on STL I reckon it must be the fuler, humbucker sound of a 335 on MTT as well. Those at Manzanera.com said that Phil used a Tele. Well, I am not Phil Manzanera and neither do I have his skills, but I have a Japanese Fender Strat and when I try to play the solo it sounds far to tinny and thin (using the bridge pickup, or even the middle position of all the pick-ups). I reckon a Tele would be even more tinny (at leaset it would if I played it!) so I don't think that a tele is used for the solo. So as for buying a real ES-335, there is no chance on earth I could afford one (unless I take up several money-spinning criminal activities) so a copy it is. I think if I sold some of my gear I could afford to spend about £400, (about $600?) So what should I get?, and is it worth getting a better second hand guitar than a new one for the same cost?
