For their prices they could afford better, less literal English translations in their instructions. Hell, they could hire me. It arrived in an unremarkable metal tube very similar to that of haemmorhoid medications. Phytofix is apparently made only from natural plant extracts. I was assured a natural hold on my hair. When I squeezed out a little, it was translucently, decadently green, like absinthe. No wonder Ferry likes it. I only put a little in my hair. Okay, it works. Big deal. Several hours later, checking out my hair in the middle, I can see why Bryan likes it. It does hold your hair, without any of that disgusting mousse/gel crispiness or flaking brittleness. Rather amazing. And yes, it felt natural. Whatever. I need to get my hair cropped now. Neil __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I saw the cardboard sleeve reissues for Taxi and Mamouna at the weekend at HMV in London and I was very disappointed. Both of the original releases have beautifully produced booklets which really add to the overall concept of the release. Mamouna in particular has a lovely booklet with its fold out section and pictures of the models. However, these are not included in the limited editions. The pictures from the Mamouna booklet are microreproduced on one side of the cardboard inner sleeve (each one smaller than a postage stamp) and look pretty daft. This seems a bit surprising to me given that the earlier albums with gatefold sleeves were so carefully reproduced. tata Richard - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 Nov 1999 18:02:34 +0100 From: "Martin Stockman" Subject: Re: [AVALON] Haircut I was at the UK Premiere of the new Bond movie yesterday and I couldn't help noticing that Pierce has been to Bryan's barber. - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 Nov 1999 19:19:44 +0100 From: Kicki Gustafsson Subject: Re: [AVALON] Haircut >I was at the UK Premiere of the new Bond movie yesterday and I couldn't help >noticing that Pierce has been to Bryan's barber. Taxi and Mamouna were both released on vinyl as well as CD and the new ltd. editions are supposed to be copies of the LP designs and not the CD booklets and cases. (Compare the Bete Noire ltd. edition with CD and LP releases - it's the LP that it's modelled on. At the time, the LPs were better packaged.) The Mamouna cover even has 'Side 1' and 'Side 2' written on it, just like the vinyl's. The refusal to change makes Avalon's text a bit tricky to read, but it works well on Boys and Girls - they removed the bar code, kept that odd layout, and resisted the temptation to add Bryan's name to the front cover. Have you guys SEEN the new Aston Martins? They're beautiful, but BMW has a fatter PR wallet and more marketable cars, so Bond gets to drive soulless (although swish) Eurobankermobiles (sorry Martini, although I'm applying to law school so don't take it too hard). Ferry remarked on this in a couple of interviews soon after. He declined the meeting, and seemed vague about its purpose. Whether he was on a shortlist for Bond himself, or there was interest in him p[erforming the theme song, who knows? ( But if it had been the latter surely it would have been John Barry, or whoever was doing the music at that time, who'd have got in touch?) Anyway, a little mystery. Ferry said that he'd always thought the Bond movies rather tacky anyway. By th way, I notice that Richard Swift and others have been closely monitoring the chart progress of the new album, but there seems to have been no mention of the single. How did it do? Any chart placing? Top Seventy-five, ar least, surely? As far as I'm aware only one radio station (BBC R2) was giving it any airplay and it wasn't widely available in the shops either - the combination probably accounts for the absence of even a minor chart presence. Bryan Ferry. I read an interview sometime in the mid-late 80's where Bryan said, in a NY Italian restaurant, that he'd been offered the role (sometime around the time Dalton took over).
