Since the album reportedly sold c. 10,500 copies in the first week when it made a debut at 16, it seems questionable that it could have notched up sales amounting to 100,000 whilst occupying chart positions of 37, 37 and 43 but perhaps ORDERS could have reached this level on the strength of TV advertising, the involvement of Woolworths and the prospect of exposure over the forthcoming festive season. It will be interesting to see whether Music Week corroborates the silver status when this week's issue is published shortly. If this proves to be correct then the album seems likely to have already surpasssed sales status of the two previous albums. As I said in earlier messages, Simon was kind enough to reply to me in response to earlier e-mails I sent to the official websites. Jim Lawn was also kind enough to introduce me to Simon at the RFH in July but there was such a lot going on at the time that I didn't take the opportunity to talk to him, something which I have regretted since and regret even more now. Without making too much of hindsight, it struck me in July that he didn't look well at all - very gaunt. Perhaps others who were there may have felt the same?? Streutker" Subject: [AVALON] Report on Las Vegas!! Hi Gang!!! Well, I just got in from Viva Las Vegas..what a fabulous place! And what a GREAT place for a concert, a Bryan Ferry Concert!! First off, Thanks goes to Hip Chip for the passes....I already had reserved tix seating, but we (my brother and me) decided on the standing room only approach instead..That way, we could be within a few feet of the Maestro... Now...on with the show: The House of Blues was a terrific place for a intimate Bryan Ferry concert, but it was much different than the Oakland show. The vibe was not the smae as Oakland, but keep in mind that a lot of people may have showed up for the show b/c they were staying at the Mandalay Bay Casino perhaps wanting to See A Show in Vegas, you know....as opposed to die hard fans who would schlepp over the Oakland (and a not-so-great neighbourhood, I might add...zero and dangerous for 'apres concert' partying)... Anyway, Anthony and I were right up front, just left of the microphone..there were some crazed chicks up there to our left who were whoopin' it up quite a bit, you know, yelling when it is quiet, that sort of thing. Moving on...The show was so great, he did Love is the Drug as part of the encore, which was new from the Oak. show....I felt that Bryan was not too warmed by the audience....just seemed to be the vibe I was getting...We were so close to the stage, and just having seen him days earlier, I was able to see a slight difference....but when he picked up the pace with some RM songs, it seemed to get really fun, and the wonderful thing was is, that you could see it in his face and feel it in his style. Cool stuff: Just prior to the show, the same girl I had met while dancing in the Oak. aisles (I think she may be managing the tour, what luck to meet her, right??), and who was helping the Maestro give out autographs wasthere and we talked. She gave me a hug and a kiss (So European) and a beaming smile...She was really cool and friendly to both of us....She said Bryan enjoyed the flowers and photo of us (and that he 'laughed his head off' at the photo b/c 'he thought he looked 100 years old') that I had sent up to his room and that she would find me after the show. We waited a for a long while after the show, but she (Josie) never returned...which was a drag, but what can you do??? So, Avalonians, we did not get to see him backstage again (yeah, I am a bit greedy), but one of the stage handlers after the show handed me a long-stemmed red rose and a copy of the Set List!! Wahoo!!! And to Jeff and the Phoenix group: I was looking for you prior to the show....outside while we waited in line...Sorry I missed you. You may have seen me in the front of the stage, whoopin' and dancing and groovin' and laughing with my brother....it was such a GREAT show. Well, I gotta get some sleep...Oh, I won some serious $$ at the Roulette tables...danced at Studio 54 til 3:30am and had the biggest fun!! Let's hope that Bryan returns to Vegas for the 2000 tour!!! Best, Dawne We really did want to see him after the show again, but it just did not happen...I believe he was wisked off the back stage and up to his room to change...as opposed to changing in the dressing rooms of HOB. - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ End of avalon-digest V4 #379 **************************** ======================================================================== For further info, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: info avalon-digest
