But I think he misread the audience's reactions to the 30's stuff. Yeah, the majority were probably there to hear the old Roxy stuff. The memories of Massey Hall thumping 20 years ago....but I think most fans have an understanding of where Bryan's head is at. I got the feeling that this show was something he's been dying to do since These Foolish Things came out. But what rock promoter in 1973 would put on a show with a string quartet and a jazz orchestra? He also probably had too many commitments with Roxy and it wasn't something the other band members would give their approval on. From my seat in the back row on the floor, what I really noticed was the sound level. It really wasn't blasting like the old Roxy shows. But then again, this wasn't a Roxy show, was it. The interpretations of the old Roxy material (and Noam's highlight, Smoke Gets In Your Eyes) from the "old guys" in the band were great. Dare I say, it was almost like seeing a Roxy cover band?! ;-) Seriously, it was an enjoyable show. Jealous Guy was a highlight for me, as well as As Time Goes By. I remember back when These Foolish Things came out, I remember talking with a friend about "Wouldn't it be cool to hear him sing As Time Goes By?" After 2HB, his love of Bogart was pretty obvious. Well that's about it from me for now. If I had to pick one highlight it would be a draw between Bittersweet and Where Or When. And now Janeen informs us he played ASFE in Chicago....... . I still predict LITD will show up; the interplay between Bryan and the band seems to lend itself more to raw sexual images than to melancholy; at times I thought the whole stage was dripping with sensuality. It mainly dealt with him being a suave guy and how he has changed his image. There was mention of atgb at the end of the article. High Definition Compatible Digital. > Does our old CD players reproduce HD CD's or are the additional bits > lost in the digital conversion playback? (Granted they sound better > then the previous cd's but that could be do to the much improved > digital remastering capabilities.) There are only about 50 compatible players out there (plus some DACs). Without a compatible player, the improvement you're hearing is the effect of remastering from the original tapes. Actually they're going back to analog mastering techniques in many cases, but I digress. :)Often the two come bundled - a remaster effort combined with HDCD pressing. > Also, are all CD's going to be re-issued as HD's? If anyone knew the answer to the future of this format, they could become quite wealthy on speculation. Let's see, so far we have 16 bit CD, HDCD, 24/96, XRCD, DVD-Audio, SACD/DSD... shall we keep going? > What's this 24 bit stuff all about? > And, is there a web site that explains this all? > Try www.hdcd.com for starters on your first question(s). The audio newsgroups are good for searching past discussions (rec.audio.opinion and rec.audio.highend). The bigger high end audio sites are also covering this topic continually; www.stereophile.com, www.audiophilia.com, www.soundstage.com You can probably find white papers at www.aes.org (audio engineering society) if you're so inclined. > Thanks in advance! > Rod Nada.
