For the most part it's been possible to remain in ignorance about the content of a concert ever since because tours have either kicked off in the UK or the earlier overseas legs have not been widely reported in the press. However the Internet and this (wonderful) list changes that somewhat. Quite simply, if Bryan has some surprises up his sleeve for the audience, whether these are new songs, newly arranged classics for this unique band or anything else, I'd like to be surprised by them at least once - in Liverpool!! That said I'm enjoying reading general comments about the tour and will save other review like Colleen's until later. I know it's not to everyone's liking on this list but I think this is one of the finest vocals I've heard Ferry deliver (going out on something of a limb I'd suggest Ferry is in fine voice here - singing every bit as well as he ever has but without the benefit [or hinderence depending on your perspective] of production) and the arrangement is simply exquisite. It's precisely the sort of nostalgic song that has had a place in the market around Christmas in years past - e.g. UK releases of the likes of "When I Fall in Love" or "True Love". If Virgin had their act together it's conceivable a second single could have been released for the Christmas market and benefitted from the Christmas TV appearances (at least 3 major appearances so far) but the reality is the title track may be the only release if the original talk of no single releases is anything to go by. Incidentally, the current edition of Classic Rock magazine has reviews of two sets of re-releases and a short piece on the new album. The writer claims the latter as Ferry's best solo album to date. As things stand right now I personally might be inclined to agree but I would add a caveat that time will tell - it's often hard to come to a judgement about where a new album ranks in a body of work when that album is such a good one but I'm sure this will become, if not my favourite Ferry album, one of my most favoured. These songs are a delight, the arrangements are fantastic (not all adhere closely to other versions) and a number are just so tongue in cheek. But overall this is just such a coherant album - 14 songs that work together seemlessly (admittedly probably easier to achieve with a band of this sort) to produce an album with an ambience not achieved since "Avalon". I say 14 songs because whilst it's a fantastic track, "I'm In The Mood For Love" is so out of place on the album. However I wouldn't be without it. Judging by the amount of time this CD is residing on my stereo (and the frequency with which I find myself singing the songs to myself) I will undoubtedly continue to post enthusiastic messages about it for some time. I can see other people's views on this though - the voice is different to that which we've grown to know and love but, as indicated above, I'd profer that it's far closer to Ferry's real voice anyway - at least c. 1980 onwards. Of the top of my head Ferry hasn't blasted out a song on vinyl since 1975 - his vocal style has become far more sedate and if he'd recorded everything in the same vain as this album - virtually live and with very little production - we'd have heard this vocal style years ago. And I can see where some people might be coming from on the songs themselves. Although I'm only 39, I virtually grew up with a lot of these songs and countless others from the era because this is precisely the music my parents have always listened to (incidentally, like an earlier writer I'm delighted that both my Mum and Dad love this album [my Mum has bought it] - quite a turn round from the years of shouting up the stairs to complain about the "racket"!). As I grew up the films that featured many of these songs were a major part of the TV schedules but this simply isn't the case anymore and I could understand it if younger fans, hearing these songs or even music of this kind for the first time in any depth, were to find this genre inaccessible. Anyway - enough already. The remasters in the cardboard sleeves are faithful to the original releases in terms of track listing and packaging (with minor exceptions like which mixes are included on the likes of "Manifesto") - accordingly "Virginia Plain" is not included on the first album. These are limited editions which are now being replaced in stores by the other versions in jewel cases. These have enhanced packaging altho' as far as I'm aware this is only lyric booklets for those albums which didn't have these originally. "Roxy Music" includes "Virginia Plain" in much the same way as certain vinyl editions did and the previous CD release did, although curiously they never saw fit to do the same with "Pyjamarama" on "For Your Pleasure". I have now bought all the remasters in the cardboard sleeves and consider them to be a good investment - the quality is extremely good. However I really do question the differing packaging - this can only be an attempt to lure collectors into buying these remasters twice over but at an average cost of around £200 per set and in the presence of numerous other copies of the same albums it's not one, for once, that I will be taking up. The show was fantastic. From Colleen's post, it sounds like he did the same songs. Ticketmaster had a note that had said "Songs From the 30's only", but he came through for the audience. Bryan looked magnificent, (I had my high power bi-nocs. on him!!) so believe me, I could see every line on his face. He looks 10 - 15 years younger than his age. Hair looked great, etc. In my opinion he is nowhere near losing that wonderful voice... Or his confidence. His voice was perfect. The band was excellent, they did an unbelievable job. The show opened with the harpist, very nice. Then the Siren quartet came on and after one melody, you could hear the audience was restless for Bryan. He finally came on stage at 8:40p. I had tears when he sang Carrickfergus, Jealous Guy, and The Only Face. I was looking forward to hearing "I'm in the Mood for Love", but he did not perform it. "Where or When" was beautiful. The only complaint I have is: the concert ended at approx. 10:20p (about 90min. of BF on stage). I never wanted it to end..........
