I was impressed by the band - and I agree that the Sirens were chosen to be ..well, Sirens. They were competent. Lucy on viola gave me a very nice smile, so all is forgiven. But the BAND - I have never seen an ensemble that could move through so many different arrangements and handle them all so well - I WANT A TAPE! This place holds 900 people according to the Fire Marshall signs, although having been literally shoe-horned by management at the last minute into the legendary Radiohead show a few years back, I assume this is a fluid number. But in this specific instance it's more a function of the design of this particular space and its small size rather than its capacity. > Thanks again for the splendid report. I can offer one explanation since I was the first one who elected to hide my comments--this was the first show I've been to in a while where I didn't know anything about what was going to happen. The merchandise, that is. A cardboard promotional flat, of the type that used to come with LPs, was 5$, and was a reproduction of the cover. The program was $15 and unexceptional. There were three tee-shirts. Two (one black, one white) had only a fleur-de-lis in gold and the words "Bryan Ferry" over the heart of the fleur...the other tee shirt was a beige shirt with a screen of the drawings of the people in evening wear from the jacket of ATGB. That tee-shirt was 40 bucks. The others were 25. But most disappointing was the appearance of the Bryan Ferry golf shirt. They were the type of cheap, all-cotton polo style shirts that someone gives you as a freebie when you register for a convention (you know, they usually say things like "Phoenix: America's Desert Playground" or "Welcome to the International Brotherhood of Teamsters"). Well, these had the fleur-de-lis logo sewn on the left breast, and they are available in black or white. I wouldn't wear one at gunpoint. They were $40 too. But thankfully, I didn't see anyone buy one. In fact, I watched the show from the sound booth, which is right next to the merchandise counter, and saw precious little in the way of sales, at least in DC. steve - ----- Original Message ----- From: Colleen Matan To: Sent: Thursday, November 04, 1999 4:00 PM Subject: Re: [AVALON] Ferry Smiles (And So Does Matan), Or The Post You've All Been , ... > > > > On Thu, 4 Nov 1999 JFROXY@aol.com wrote: > > > By the way Colleen, was there any merchandise for sale?, and if so what. > > I only glanced at the stuff on the way in--2, maybe 3, kinds of T-shirts, > a polo-collared shirt. When the Turner Prize artists presented their wares to the public a couple of weeks ago, the singer Madonna, to the surprise of the Tate, was among the first to gawp at Tracey Emin's unmade bed. Yesterday, the first time that the paintings of the Bloomsbury group had been displayed together, saw visitors of a different kind. Relatives and descendants of the original Bloomsbury artists were at the private view before the official opening, mixing with collectors, celebrity lenders and others with connections to the group of aesthetes who still fascinate. The actress Helena Bonham Carter, who has starred in films based on E M Forster's books, viewed the exhibition with Chris Smith, Secretary of State for Culture, the punk godfather Malcolm McLaren, Paloma Picasso and footballer David Ginola. The singer Bryan Ferry was among collectors who had lent pictures to the Tate, on the Embankment in London. The retrospective of the work of Duncan Grant, Vanessa Bell and Roger Fry runs until the end of January. ____________________________________ IMPORTANT - this e-mail and the information that it contains may be confidential, legally privileged and protected by law. Colleen hmmmmmmm ... ms. colleen -- that's *not* exactly what your review sounded like there, 'sweetest' ... (just a little tiny bit of chiding - ha-ha), n'est-ce pas? well, as always, don't recommend going through eight (8) days worth of digests ... now, i'd hope colleen's review (thanks, btw, colleen!) would dispel much of this CRAP regarding ferry's stature as a singer/non-singer and 'losing' his voice. i mean -- *who* are you people comparing him to?! he doesn't even SOUND like anyone else -- isn't that part of the reason we're all here? of course, it's MHO that there's plenty of petrol left in the tank, no? i say a resounding *yea* in the affirmative. thanks all for those roxy/ferry memorabilia trips down memory lane. i enjoy that stuff and never knew they were marketing that early on and in that way. i agree, kicki -- 'where or when' has really come to the fore in a positive manner for myself as well. i really hope he plays that and (now that i've heard he did it at the d.c. show) 'the only face' (hands *down* one of my all-time faves ...). re: a & b sound -- i was about to hit the 'complete order' button for many of the remasters when i noticed they all were listed as 'out of stock'. at that time (apx. a month ago), they included their phone # on the site and i called. they indicated they received all their stock for the carboard sleeved versions. i asked if they were expecting the full jewel case versions after the first of the year. the guy - in a hyper-vague way, said 'yes'. now, i see they've taken their phone # off and are listing only the fax, e-mail and street address. so -?? i was also just going to mention that complaining to virgin (unless you've got contacts ...) is about as useless an endeavor as you might imagine. i'm still waiting on both a four-year and one-year old inquiry/bitch to them about d. sylvian. so, depending, don't hold your breath. it would be nice if people would just do their damn jobs once in a while, though. and, atlanta greggie: yes, i am properly admonished. i'd better damn well 'get on the stick' as they say. woooooo ... maybe if i still lived in paris - - that might help (or if i'd really learned 'le langue francais, oui?). and, lastly, before i had lost the ability to post, i had sent segments (of an interview and a 'guest q & a on style' that ferry had done in '92 & '93 in 'details' magazine) to the list -- which never made it. i'll have to do the transcription again, but i think you'll find it a real treat - sartorially speaking, if nothing else ... try to do that tomorrow. all nyc-ers: have fun at that gig tonight! i am really excited now about next wednesday in detroit! and ... what is the concensus re: gig apparel? what *is* everyone wearing, then? peaces/ms ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 05 Nov 1999 11:37:58 PST From: "mark shanahan" Subject: [AVALON] forgot this the following url has chord changes for a lot of roxy/ferry btw: http://www.nutz.org/olga/main/f/ferry_bryan/ and, thanks tritri for the comedy central/snl scheduling. i, of course, read it at 2PM (at show's end), but found at their site that it will be re-shown at the following times: Danny DeVito / Brian Ferry featuring: "Church Chat"; Siskel & Ebert X-rated movie review Watch It Again At: Friday, Nov 5 1:30PM Monday, Nov 8 1:00PM Monday, Nov 8 1:30PM Late Night Monday, Nov 8 12:30AM Tuesday, Nov 9 1:00PM for some reason, they list the same show in half-hour increments. peaces/ms ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 5 Nov 1999 20:47:03 +0100 From: "Han Snijders en Willy v/d Geest" Subject: Re: [AVALON] "I'm in The Mood for Love" Single 'I'm in the mood for love' with a cover of a dead body lying in the water? ;-) You now how to get publicity Heidi Han > > > >IF INTMFL is released as a single, I have the perfect sleeve (or is it >cover, now?) - at least some cover art > >http://www.geopages.com/SoHo/Nook/3829/oph.html > > >- H. > > > > > > >-------------------- >To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: >unsubscribe avalon > - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 5 Nov 1999 20:01:53 -0000 From: "Killip family" Subject: [AVALON] Where or When "I nominate Where or When to be one of the best songs ever written."...said eRacerX Seconded...
