I just want to go on record here as totally agreeing with this very well-written paragraph. It doesn't hurt that my favorite studio VU album is the third one and my favorite Roxy Music album is STRANDED, but I hope I would have admired this argument even if I didn't concur with every word of it. FWIW, *my* very favorite album ever is the Velvet Underground's 1969 LIVE, an "official bootleg" that captures the band touring for the third album and in the midst of writing what would be LOADED. It's got tremendous performances of the familiar material and versions of the LOADED stuff that IMO far outstrip what would eventually end up on the album. To take the LOADED/SIREN comparison a step that Bahi may or may not, IMO the live versions of SIREN stuff (the fabulous VIVA! take of "Both Ends Burning" and the other songs via bootlegs) far outstrip their wan studio doppelgangers. (By the way, the version of "Sweet Jane" that the Cowboy Junkies had a huge hit with in 1988 wasn't *their* rearrangement but rather a cover of the 1969 LIVE version of the song.) later, Miles, who is aghast that anyone would be *anticipating,* rather than properly *dreading,* the new George Michael ====================================================== Miles Goosens UNlimited edition R. He probably thought that "Roxy" was an adjective you were using to describe the music, and he was trying to make sense of the apparent non-sequitur. Or maybe he thought that it was a brand name, like Muzak! > -H. > (It's always nice to hear anything other than LITD in public) I guess it's my day to play List Contrarian, but I seldom hear LITD -- much more often, it's "Avalon" or "More Than This." This was true even before the N. Merchant-less 10k Maniacs scored a minor hit with the latter. Sometimes it's even "Slave To Love," though I'll bet it gets played in UK department stores more than it does here. later, Miles, ====================================================== Miles Goosens UNlimited edition R.
