I wouldn't be surprised though, as Bry does this alot either with subtle notes or pre-recorded soundeffects. The same case is with Taxi, as everyone knows dedicated to his late mom, that's why Amazing Grace is on it. The end is quite scary, as the rain of 'Taxi' slowly mingles to 'Because You're Mine' in the background you hear 'walking-on-gravel', 'shovel' and 'some-other-mechanical' sounds. Hi Bahi, re your Autographs question - I guess I've been lucky on the Autograph front, recently (well, 2 years ago) getting the likes of 'Taxi' , 'Mamouna' , and 'Ultimate Collection' Vinyls signed, (and any others that were in my shop at the time when Bry came in) but I can't forget the 'grin' on Bryans face when he saw the RM/Bry Vinyl section in my shop - as per usual, the sections are clearly labelled - 'U2', 'Beatles', 'Rolling Stones' etc etc - but of course the RM/Bry section just said - in big red letters - 'GOD'. (with small letters underneath with the inscription : 'notes could not spell out the score'). Frankly, I was quite embarrassed, and pleased to see he saw the funny side. As for the other autographs, the bulk of them came when I followed Roxy on most of the UK Siren Tour in 75 (when just a lad of 17 !) so I have signatures on most of the first 5 RM Albums, plus 'solo' ones on 'Diamond Head' ,'Eddie Riff', and 'Mainstream'. Most fave one though is RM first Album, framed and on the wall of course - though 1 'main' sig. missing - Eno (as it was signed in 75'). Therefore it has a Jobson sig. on it instead. I was happy that the Sadistic Mika Band signed their albums too (did anyone else see them on the tour ? - they were brill) You have reminded me - I really must look out my old 'cuttings' etc from way back - still have loads in a couple of boxes, you know the sort of thing, NME/MM/DISC paper cuttings etc, (a really great one from July 73 front page NME which says 'What Gives With Roxy ? - referring to Eno 'quitting' Roxy - and claiming that Mackay and Manzanera were about to jump ship too), Tour Progs, and a few rather 'vintage' Roxy posters too, and reviews and music paper ads ("NEW Roxy Music Album - Stranded - available NOW" !) type of thing. I always promised myself to start an RM/Bry Website using scanned images from these sort of things - really must try to get that together when I have time, as it's something I'd really love to do. But it's a huge project. I did kick around the idea of starting a Roxy Fanzine with a friend of mine for a while - but again it's 'time and money' of course, though that could still happen, not till at least early next year though, - and only of course if the interest from people was there to do it in the first place. I must admit I would have done it a long time back if i'd known this list existed a while ago (I thought i was 'one of the few' !). Maybe you (and every other cool fan on this list) have inspired me - I should 'make time' to dig some of these things out. Did anyone else get the Roxy FYP large Mirror that was doing the rounds around 75/76 ? I only know of 2 other people that have one, though many were available particularly at many record shops in Glasgow around that time, so I guess some Scots on this list could well have it too - I'd love to know... Off - topic slightly - but I have got Marc Bolans Tambourine, which he threw off the stage at Glasgow Apollo after tearing the 'skin' of it on his guitar (Jan 74, if memory serves) and has the printed inscription 'Truck Off' in large letters in the middle, with 'Marc Bolan & T. Rex on Tour as Zinc Alloy and the Hidden Riders of Tomorrow' around the rim. Pure fluke, this, as so many people raised their hands up to attempt to catch it - it bounced over many - and landed straight in my lap. How I got out of there alive with it I'll never know. A battered piece of memorabilia, but a very prized possession nonetheless, as Boley was a big hero of mine, who only 'moved aside' as it were, when Roxy surfaced. Hence my recent list of totally horny songs - featuring only Roxy/Bry/Bolan - my biggest heroes. I could start on about Vanessa Paradis - (less about the Music, this - ok I admit it) but I'm getting carried away into fantasy land now, and am starting to think of Mary Weiss too (lead singer of The Shangri-Las - who i only 'discovered' about 10 years ago - great Band). Oh No - you've got me started on 'fantasy women' now. It's time to stop this message immediately ! Tara... Johnny Reece... PS Apologies for the long message - got totally carried away in some sort of memorabilia mind-warp there... - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 27 Oct 1999 21:26:43 -0700 From: Brian Folks Subject: Re: [AVALON] mom's opinion This is so strange.
