Hi folks: I took off a short time today from studies to buy ATGB. I LOVE IT! I appreciate the time, commitment, and dare I say the SOUL that Bryan put in this project. It felt just taking a trip back in time. I'm in the Mood for Love is the centerpiece in my opinion. I'm not in the mood, but I'm glad that Bryan was. It is old and new at the same time. Could this have been an outake from Mamouna??? I saw on the credits that Phil is playing guitar on this track. I wonder what it could have been if Andy had added some tasty oboe or sax to it?? I was smiling all the way thru it as well as dancing a little as well:). Granted the 30's are not my favorite period for music ( that will be the 60's), but I do have an appreciation for it. Having grown up watching movies of Astaire, Bogart, Cagney, Davis, Hepburn, et.al., Bryan's interpretations fell right in line. So Bryan took a risk. Big Deal. It's true some won't like it nor will it sell gazillions ( which will be a shame), I like the fact he did somehthing different which is what drawed me to him in the first place. He could easily made "acceptable" music to please the masses, but he followed his own muse and for that I applaud him for. If he needs to experiment now and again with different styles and textures, he has the right to do so. For the record I am not one of the "elitists" . I'm glad that I have a well rounded appreciation for music in general no matter what form it takes wheter it be dirges, experimental noise, classical pieces, avant jazz, or "crooners". I try to give it all a listen and absorb bits and pieces of it if not all of it. When Bryan plays Chicago, I will appreciate and applaud whatever he wants to do. He's got my respect. Of course I have my wish list, but I'm just grateful that he's still around and making music AND he's touring again AND I have a good seat to boot!!!. I will also dress for the occassion in tribute to the artist and the music that he has made now and in the past. That's my two cents ....now back to studies Jas PS to Kimberly and Janeen: I won the XRT contest for free tickets to Cheap Trick, Los Lobos, Wilco, and Widespread Panic. I still can't believe that it happened. - -------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 23 Oct 1999 20:56:48 -0400 (EDT) From: Heather Marie Buch Subject: Re: [AVALON] Re: please disregard previous message On Sun, 24 Oct 1999, Colleen Matan wrote: > erm, that was actually a private email I thought the better of sending but > the combination of my dyslexia and the Pine mailer meant I do what I often > do--hit the wrong keys and so I ended up sending it to Dawne (and it > was *not* something I EVER intended to be posted to the list.) > Hey, it happens.
