Sorry, I don't remember you from the Palladium for the Manifesto tour - I was in row 3, right in front of Phil. - second best seats ever. I have a fantastic photo of Bryan and Phil somewhere, taken by the guy seated next to me. I should scan it someday. Radio City (Avalon), we had first row, dead center, balcony. I was in awe of the fantastic sound. Radio City has the best acoustics I have ever heard. For that show I had 5 others in tow, but in those days, we were a group of pals who always went to shows together. Those are my only NY shows for RM/BF - I could KILL myself not seeing Bryan at the Bottom Line, when I probably could have, and I also have my ticket for the cancelled Roxy show at the Pier. Their music varies from old-time American and early bluegrass to unaccompanied three-part harmony singing. The band hails from the North East, and once boasted a young Bryan Ferry among its members. Well, I'm certainly no expert on the ins-and-outs of the music world, but isn't it very likely, even with the expensive ticket prices (which reminds me of an interview with Ian McKellan where he dubbed United States audiences the best ones to perform in front of "because they are congratulating themselves for being able to afford the ticket prices"), that Mr. Ferry will actually lose money on the US leg? I'm not sure how much money one can make on a 15? 16? date tour of small venues in support of an album which probably won't get any airplay here. My friend had Warhol sign his camera bag. I had second row seats, directly behind Eddie Jobson and John Wetton. To top off the evening, hoping to see Ferry, et al, come out, we hung out behind the theatre on 13th Street. Bowie and Eno came running out, jumped a wooden barricade right where I was standing, and Eno landed on my foot! Unfortunately, they kept going and jumped in a waiting limo. I'm also new to the list, but a long-time Roxy/Ferry fan, going back to '73. My first Roxy concert was in 1975, during the Country Life tour, also at the Palladium, (it was called the Academy of Music then). I think I was 17. At that one, Warhol was two seats away from me, and he was accompanied by Amanda Lear. I'll never forget my first view of Ferry, in white tux, sashaying out from behind stage as they opened with Country Life. I've been lucky enough to catch every American tour of Roxy & Ferry since then, climaxed by getting a chance to chat with the man for a few moments outside the Beacon in November, '94. He signed my copy of "The Ultimate Collection" and I gave him a copy of a children's book I had written and illustrated (don't ask me why - maybe I thought his kids would like it), but he seemed pleased and thanked me. Looking forward to the concert at the Beacon on the 5th, even though my wife and I are in row X! I'm ready to hit the road tomorrow to my CD store for the new album! Thanks for listening to my tales. I think the review was misguided in its assessment of Ferry, its analysis of his influences... It seemed very American in its view of Bryan Ferry, who's never had great exposure here. It identified Ferry very easily with the jet-set and glamour image he's always had, with no hint of irony. That's what did it. The lack of any irony, any notion that the truth mayn't always live up to the image.
